About this deal

We found it to offer fabulous contrast, as reflected in the panel’s 5125:1 score in our tests. In line with this, the MateView GT impressed us with its wide colour space coverage of 99.2% sRGB and 86.9% DCI-P3. This translated into bold, bright colours in mainstream games, which made them look crisp and sharp in testing. With that being said, the minimal support for DisplayHDR400 did leave the HDR experience underwhelming, especially at this asking price. You may want to look elsewhere if a top-notch HDR performance is a must have, although it will cost you a fair bit more. Approximate diagonal size of the display. If the manufacturer does not provide such information, the diagonal is calculated from the width and height of the screen.

Information about the maximum horizontal viewing angle, within which the image on the screen is of acceptable quality.

Information about the number of pixels on the horizontal and vertical side of the screen. A higher resolution allows the display of a more detailed and of higher quality image. The storage humidity shows the lower and upper humidity limit, which ensures safe storage of the display. Storing it outside these limits might damage the display. The operating temperature shows the safe temperature range (from minimum to maximum), within which the display will function flawlessly. Outside this range it might operate improperly and/or fail entirely. Returning the point of gaming, the 240Hz refresh rate offers up smooth motion with only minor bouts of ghosting, and combined with the detail on offer with a 4K panel, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better gaming monitor. In addition, the 1000R curve helped to keep things immersive, offering the same curvature as Samsung’s other Odyssey monitors, as well as one that matches a person’s eyeline.

Information about whether the stand can be dismounted. Usually, this is required for wall mounting. On the topic of panel performance, I should mention that the MateView GT can exhibit a bit of ghosting in fast-moving sequences, such as in a frantic firefight with multiple enemies. Engaging the maximum overdrive setting helps but that, in turn, produces a bit of inverse ghosting, so you’ll have to settle for one or the other. To get the best results, our team of experts have spent at least a week with each device, made judgements on the display and design based on real-world experience, and also carried out tests using expert equipment such as colourimeters. The most widely used panels are those with 6, 8, and 10 bits for each of the RGB components of the pixel. They provide 18-, 24-, and 30-bit color, respectively. All in all, if you’re after an immersive ultra-wide gaming experience then the Samsung Odyssey G9 OLED (2023) is a very easy recommendation. So long as you have a powerful GPU in your rig to power its impressive resolution and frame rate then you can play all your favourite supported games with a hypnotic 32:9 aspect ratio. While there isn’t much bass here, perhaps in a future model, I was still pretty impressed with the sound quality across different genres of music, while gaming, and even while watching a movie as a test. While no match for a decent headset, the soundbar was perfectly suitable for enjoying racing games like Forza Horizon 5 and even being able to survive in Call of Duty: Warzone.

The soundbar is, unsurprisingly, a huge step up from typical integrated monitor speakers, offering a lot more volume and vibrant presence that can, if not bust the walls of a standard-size room, at least meet them head-on. That said, it’s not stunning sound. There’s not a great deal of bass — it was detectable in only the flattest of ways listening to The Knife’s “Silent Shout”— and some distortion crept into recordings of soprano vocals when the volume was maxed out. You’re still best served by connecting a dedicated pair of good speakers to your PC or hooking the computer up to your living room’s sound system, but this is a perfectly serviceable solution for gamers who don’t fancy themselves off-hour audiophiles. There are various panel technologies. Each has its own specific features - viewing angles, color reproduction, response time, brightness/contrast, production cost, etc. The image quality depends directly on the type of the display panel used. The 32:9 aspect ratio worked amazingly well in supported games; driving around in Cyberpunk 2077 felt incredibly immersive, with the seedy urban landscape and neon-lit buildings being brought to life as we drove throughout the town. In Forza Horizon 5, the wider view of the buildings really added to the sense of speed as our car whizzed past and the in-car view looked a lot more detailed than it would on a standard, smaller, monitor. There's no getting away from the fact that pixel response is not this display's strongest point. However, when you're actually in-game, as opposed to forensically inspecting test animations and jiggling windows about looking for issues, it's actually pretty tolerable.
