Basically one long fight, as is pretty common so far in this series, as the group attempts to defend a girl who is being murdered for her fortune. There's a little bit of stupid for plot in here, but it's not too egregious. Truth ( 真実 , Shinjitsu ?): After waking up, Kaya finds the wounded Merry who tells her everything and they were wrong about Usopp before she leaves to confront Kuro. Usopp's crewmen meet and agree that Usopp lied earlier before noticing Kaya, and decide to follow her. Meanwhile Zoro begins his battle against the Nyaban Brothers, only for one of them Sham to steal two of his swords. This is the only volume where the official Viz title is a deliberate renaming of the original Japanese, rather than any sort of translation or adaptation.

It’s not even finished in this volume but already surprised me in many ways. Of course usopp has always been one of my favorite characters but this arc reminded me why. He is not only a character for comedic relief, he also has core values he would stand up for even if he’s scared shitless and he protects his village even tho no one believes him anymore. I think he is one of the most underrated characters. I really like how lively, fun and over-the-top the early part of this series is. The earnest characters far outweigh the cynical ones, and that adds to its youthful feeling.
