About this deal

Because of this, I’ve had to consider the utility of a 75mm prime lens when the quality of the 40-150mm f/2.

As for manual focus this is a focus by wire lens but it feels really smooth and is no problem to focus. Sharpness topped the list of improvements the pancake lens offered, but autofocus was a close second. The last time I used 150mm or longer was when I would take trips to the local Zoo to shoot the Orangutans. As one who is strongly considering jumping into the OM-D System, I too, would rather shoot discretely with a black lens on a black OM-D. So with this Olympus 75 being 150mm equivalent I wondered if I could even find shots to take to fill this review!

For shooting static objects i love it, but for moving objects you really can’t compare M43 to a DSLR IMHO. The only thing you lose shooting this over an APS- or full frame is some shallow depth of field effects with lenses. If you want test charts – DXOMark tested this lens as the best performing m43 lens in their database.

After seeing some incredible photos across the web, and after getting some encouragement from new colleagues, I expended my Christmas money on a piece of glass that cost more than my camera body itself. My first mirrorless camera was the diminutive, but extremely capable Olympus OMD-EM5 body which came out in 2012. My parents bought a Canon SLR in 1990 right after they got married, but the film photos they snapped back then were extremely expensive and relatively poor by today’s standards. The closer you get to any poster, the less sharp it appears, but from, say, three feet away an OM-D shot should be perfectly good.A further look at the specs shows why this is – Olympus decided not to include any ASPH elements and added a 9 blade aperture, which helps in bokeh rendering. I think some manufacturers are making lenses in both black and silver (or white), so that we have the option. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The lens is about as good as it can be and it shows more than ever that the “little camera that could”, the OM-D E-M5 is a serious as can be tool. At the end of the day the type of camera won’t really matter, but when a photographer is tired or dismotivated because he’s carrying a heavy equipment around the whole day he might take less creative pictures and have a less pleasant charisma to strangers he might photograph….
