About this deal

It is hard to define as a poem / novel but it covers issues of bullying, being new in school and many aspects of friendship and trust. It could be used for PHSE sessions but I have read it out loud to 3 different year 5 / 6 classes and they all got engrossed in the plot beyond the poetry. It was also noticeable that the boys in particular wanted to know more about what would happen next. - Result!! Davey is the new boy in class and Sam can't stand him. He thinks Davey is a Grade A moron. But when the two are thrown together Sam discovers that Davey's eccentric way of looking at the world makes life a lot more fun. Until the day something terrible happens... Don't quite know why I haven't read this before. However, I'm really glad I came across it on a bookshelf in a classroom. Cloud Busting is about a boy called Sam who was bullying a boy in his class. The book explores why Sam started to bully his classmate and how this affected the boy who was being bullied. Through his actions he in turn became bullied and understood how Tim felt.

Thank you for taking the time to create and post this superb resource. It's fabulous. thank you! Cameron desperately needs a new heart when he is offered the opportunity to take part in a radical and controversial experiment involving the transplant of a pig's heart.Prepare children for the key themes of the story by discussing their ideas of belonging and times when they have felt the need to conform. Warm thinking up with open questions such as, “Is it important to fit in?” and “Do we all see things in the same way?” Have children think about other stories from books, television and film where “difference” defines a character and marks them out for bullying, for greatness, or maybe both. What actually happened was Sam Cloud Busting alone. Davey, telling no one, slipped away and left Sam alone thinking hard. This is a poem so its different to what i would usually have. There were lots of different techniques of poem structures. Some were rhyming and some were haikus. I wrated it a 3 because it was very easy and i didn't understand it at first but then i got the point of it.

participate in discussions about books that are read to them and those they can read for themselves, building on their own and others’ ideas and challenging views courteously drawing inferences such as inferring characters’ feelings, thoughts and motives from their actions, and justifying inferences with evidence Despite his Mum's insistence, Sam doesn't want to be friends with Davey; he thinks Davey's a first-class, grade A, top-of-the-dung heap moron. But one day, Davey saves Sam's life and a bond is formed between them. Sam is still embarrassed to be seen with Davey, but little by little, he has to admit, when it's just the two of them, Davey is a lot of fun. But then something terrible happens to Davey. . . Told in verse, in first person, this is the touching story of an extraordinary friendship that changes two boys' lives for ever. An uplifting tale that truly sings out. discuss and evaluate how authors use language, including figurative language, considering the impact on the reader Children will explore and discuss how different styles of poetry have been used to show the reader how Davey was bullied. In their independent activities, children are tasked to infer Davey's feelings throughout these events, in the form of thought bubbles or diary entries. In the FSD? activity, children are challenged to create a shape poem to represent the thoughts and feelings inside Davey's head.Cloud Busting offers an embarrassment of riches when it comes to writing responses; below is a sprinkling of possibilities: As a class, children will discuss what they know, and what they can infer, about the main characters based on their reading so far. In their independent activities, they will rewrite the 'fizzy feet' scene from Davey's point of view. In the alternative activity provided, children are challenged to gather appropriate words and phrases to write a haiku about Davey. explain and discuss their understanding of what they have read, including through formal presentations and debates, maintaining a focus on the topic and using notes where necessary This story shows how important it is for people to have friends who care about them even if those friends have different beliefs than yours do—and what happens when those friendships don't work out because of something else. Cloud Busting describes a lifechanging experience, and could be a life-changing book. Questions that will be worthy of deeper discussion may include:
