The Special Forces Club ( SFC) is a private members' club located at 8 Herbert Crescent in Knightsbridge, London. Initially established in 1945 for former personnel of the Special Operations Executive, members of wartime resistance organisations, the Special Air Service, Special Boat Service and First Aid Nursing Yeomanry, its membership now includes those who had served, or were serving, in organisations and units closely associated with special operations and the intelligence community. Plazzotta was a brave and gifted man and his sculpture, though often ridiculed by the ‘art intelligentsia’ as eclectic, was and continues to be widely appreciated. Members talk fondly of an elderly pair of lesbians - veterans of the Dutch resistance - whose courage under fire was matched by their capacity for drink.

Unlike many other clubs that were open only to men and officers, it was initially open "only to ex SOE agents and personnel, and to Resistance members from all over the SOE's areas." The members of the Special Forces Club had a cheap membership card that gave them the right to stay in London at a very modest charge. The SFC has always welcomed all ranks and men and women, reflecting the membership and spirit of the SOE. John Singlaub was the club's honorary vice president. Sir Michael Rose, a retired general who spent part of his career with Britain’s SAS (Special Air Service), points out that the special forces have always embraced currently trendy management nostrums such as “empowerment” and “high-performance teams”. People who are dropped behind enemy lines have no choice but to rely on their own wits and make the most of limited resources. Sir Michael also points out that the regular forces have followed the special forces in introducing a “mission-command approach”—that is, a commander defines the overall mission but then leaves the officers on the ground to decide how to execute it.
