About this deal

This is supposed to have been An Ancient British encampment of which the following mention is made in a Book lately published entitled Peebles and its neighbourhood by W Chambers 1856. Peeblesshire Abounds in Camps of the ancient British people who inhabited "the Gadeni" As the tribe in this quarter of Scotland was called. These British Camps are situated on the tops of Hills and are uniformly circular in form they seem to have been composed of at least two circular Mounds four or five feet high with a sunk ditch between the outer and inner Circle such were the rude enclosures in which a rude people took refuge with their goods during the Roman Invasion Our response: we intend to produce a business plan that is fully funded without day-to-day dependence on volunteers - although help from time to time will always be welcome A large rectangular building three Storeys high with vegetable garden and offices attached, and surrounded by a small well wooded Demesne The property and residence of --- Kennedy Esqr. At the S.W. [South West] Corner of the garden is a large Elm tree, around which a battle was fough between two tribes of Gipsies Called The Fawes and the Shaws in the year 1683. in which a good many on both sides were Killed. We ran an information stall at West Linton market on Saturday, March 4th. It was a cold but bright day, but Gilbert Cameron brought a marquee just in case of rain. As its name implies, this narrow footpath is perched along the side of a gorge and is suitable only for sure-footed walkers. A short link joins up with The Loan to form a circular walk. Cairns Castle, the ruins of which can still be seen near West Cairn Hill at the eastern end of Harperrig Reservoir, was the stronghold of the Warden of the Slap who endeavoured to protect those using the pass. Between February 28 and March 2 we ran four public meetings at Newlands Centre, Dolphinton Hall, the Graham Institute, and Lamancha Hub. Seb Rose gave a short presentation, supported by Debbie Davy of Glasgow University at Newlands and Dolphinton. After the presentation, the floor was opened to discussion. Fingland Burn flows along the bottom of it. A favourite angler's haunt, it has a mill, Newlands public school (1870), and a steep narrow bridge, from which it takes its name. ... Kaimes The quiet roads in this area are ideal for exploring on foot and there are several official walking routes near West Linton and even one, the Newland Hill Forts Walk, that passes right by the cottage. The Tweed Valley Railway Path is a five mile route that links Innerleithen and Peebles, following the delightful River Tweed for the majority of the way and linking up with a National Cycle Network Route as well.
