A lot of oat drinks are designed especially for coffee, so try to replicate the smooth creaminess of full fat dairy milk. If this is what you’re after, make sure to look for a Barista oat milk or one with a fat content similar to whole milk. Foamable Some oat drinks contain added sugar, but a lot of unsweetened versions still have a natural sweetness to them that comes from the starches within the oats. This can really helps to balance out the bitterness of coffee without being overpowering. Which MOMA oat drink is right for you? Splitting in hot drinks is probably the most frustrating thing about trying out a new milk alternative. Look out for acidity regulators on the ingredients list as they neutralise the acidity of your tea or coffee and make sure your oat drink stays intact! Natural sweetness I decided the best idea would be to compare three of the big brand oat milk to three own-brand milk. I bought some own brand cheaper alternatives from Aldi and Lidl. I ended up with the Alpro unsweetened oat milk, the Oatly barista oat milk, the Moma unsweetened whole milk, Aldi's own brand oat milk, Lidl's own brand unsweetened oat milk and Lidl's barista-style oat milk. Short answer – yes! Oat milk officially overtook other milk alternatives as the UK’s favourite plant milk in 2020, with use in coffee a key part of that. Unlike other non-dairy milk alternatives, oat milk doesn’t have an overpowering taste. This means you can add it to your coffee without it changing the flavour profile too much, similar to dairy. Creamy My mission was to see which one was the tastiest and also most cost-effective. I decided to taste test them all by themselves and then try my favourite two in a cup of coffee, which is how I usually drink my oat milk.

Trendy milk alternatives have taken supermarkets by storm in the past couple of years. Oatly and Alpro, to name a few, have done well in their endeavour to provide the world with a plant-based alternative and even offer up barista oat milk and chocolate oat milk. Whilst I tend to buy whatever is at the shop (usually Alpro) I thought it would be a good idea to put different oat milk brands to the test and see which one is truly the best and most scrumptious alternative around. I headed to Reading town centre to see which oat milks I could find and unsurprisingly it was mainly the big brands.
