Ive used metal levers and i wouldnt do this again due to possibly damaging the rims either physically or cosmetically - GP5000's were almost nigh on impossible to get on. Park Tool’s plastic TL-4.2s have a wide tip with a precise edge that makes it easy to initially lift the tyre off the rim. The Muc-Off Rim Stix, while a little bulky, are very strong tyre levers that can help get even the most stubborn tyres off the rim. Whether installing or removing the tyre, teasing it loose with the smaller lever and then changing to the larger one is key. The spoke hook uses a similar principle to the Schwalbe levers, but being a bit further down the handle, it means you can use it with slightly deeper rims – although still not as deep as a more traditional lever with the hooks on the end. Interestingly, on shallow rims, the Schwalbe’s position is slightly easier to use, even if it can’t cope with rims as deep as the Leverman can.

This model, though, do the job perfectly well. The tip has the right curvature and width to slide under the tyre and the lever itself is stiff enough to effectively pop the tyre up over the rim. Although quite cheap, they do this job better than both the Schwalbe and the SKS levers. The Weldtite Cyclo curved salmon-coloured resin ones don't clip together and the lip is a bit fat for tight-fitting tyres. I'm not a fan.These substitutes carry a risk. The sharp edges have a tendency to damage inner tubes or rim tape if you ride a tubeless setup. After that pushing it into the centre well, then one hand either side moving both hands away from the starting point, along the circumference. As you repeat, more of the tyre gets on. Although the last bit needs a sturdy lever.
