The producers of Billy Elliot the Musical sincerely regret to advise that as a result of the Government's announcement.

He wants to be a ballet dancer, his school dance teacher thinks he's good enough but the money isn't there to fund it any further and his father hates the fact his boy might be a sissy. BroadwayWorld stated “it truly feels like a real cinematic experience as well as a perfect distillation of the stage show,” and several reviews noted the film’s ability to just about replicate the experience of live theatre. The first Spanish language production opened on 14 February 2017 at Centro Cultural Teatro 2 in Mexico City.Filmed on 28 September 2014 at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London's West End, Billy Elliot Live was broadcast live to cinemas in several European countries, followed by further worldwide screenings. A second tour opened at the Durham Performing Arts Center in Durham, North Carolina, on 30 October 2010. Matters as fundamental as choreography and the choice to set the story against the miner's strike in 80s Newcastle are dealt with only fleetingly. In fact this two-disc package contains more insight into the making of the musical than it does the film.

The production was directed and choreographed by Donna Feore, with set design by Michael Gianfrancesco, costuming by Dana Osborne, and music direction by Franklin Brasz.

Because the audience would be seated on 3 sides of the stage, the blocking and staging needed to be designed so that all members of the audience could see the performance. Following the cinema releases, the filmed live musical was made available on DVD and BluRay, and was screened on American television through PBS’ Great Performances.
