About this deal

Bodegas Castillo de Monjardin is located in the North-West of Navarra in the foothills of the Pyrenees, 20 minutes west of Pamplona. The eponymous ‘old castle’, now a ruin, sits atop the hill behind the winery and was very important in the 12th century, as a defensive fort for Navarra’s King Sancho Garces. Today it is part of the famous pilgrimage route from Paris to Santiago de Campostella, with wine available for thirsty pilgrims as they pass through. Sit near the pond and take a moment to reflect or meditate. It is our pleasure to share it all with you! Its flagship red wine is said to be the UK’s number one Cabernet Sauvignon, while its white is the number one Sauvignon Blanc in impulse. Navarra’s proximity and historic cultural links to France provide a winemaking tradition based on Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Merlot, distinct from the more traditional reliance on Tempranillo and Garnacha found in the rest of Spain. Pascal has appeared in films and TV shows including The Mandalorian, Narcos and Game of Thrones. Concha y Toro hopes he will help make the brand more relevant to younger consumers.

A member of the Georgofili Academy, (1834), he devoted himself to the improvement of agricultural techniques in Brolio. With a stiff and reserved temperament (that's why he was called the Iron baron), at just twenty years old he began researching and experimenting with the aim of producing a high-quality wine in Chianti, able to compete internationally with the great French wines. After more than thirty years of research and experiments, in 1872 Baron Bettino Ricasoli wrote down the first Chiantiformula: "...I verified the results of the early experiments, that is, that the wine receives most of its aroma from the Sangioveto (which is my particular aim) as well as a certain vigour in taste; the Canajuolo gives it a sweetness which tempers the harshness of the former without taking away any of its aroma, though it has an aroma all of its own; the Malvagia, which could probably be omitted for wines for laying down, tends to dilute the wine made from the first two grapes, but increases the taste and makes the wine lighter and more readily suitable for daily consumption…" Our Oak aged, handcrafted wine is a drinkable gem born form vineyards infused by the peaceful surroundings that only nature can provide.

We have been privileged to plant, to nurture and to harvest the clusters of fruit that hang in abundance from the vines that decorate the hillside. In the 1980s it was Navarra more than anywhere else in Spain that pioneered modern winemaking techniques. Victor del Villar, with his wife Sonia Olano, established his vineyards and winery at this time, around his home village of Villamayor de Monjardin. Concha y Toro UK commercial director Clare Griffiths said: “The appointment of Pedro Pascal as our first global ambassador alongside the launch of our biggest TV campaign yet marks a step into a new marketing era for Casillero del Diablo.” It is our desire at the Shire, to treat you to our smooth and savory blends which will captivate the most unquenchable palate. We welcome you to experience the offerings of the vines in the comfort of the gardens of the European Styled Estate.

Friendships are made as you stroll through the grounds which rise up to greet you with a calm and soothing embrace. The latest advert sees Pascal playing a master thief willing to steal anything, except Casillero del Diablo wine, which legend says is protected by the devil. With its association with the devil, the wine is also said to be popular around Halloween. “It’s hugely important for the brand,” said marketing manager Claire Raine.
