About this deal

I wouldn't expect to see Kingpin in a Spiderman set _unless_ it also included Daredevil, as that's really the only way I can see them producing a Daredevil minifig." However, I think this computer could have been further separated from Batcomputer designs, simply by adjusting the screen arrangement. This configuration seems extremely familiar and Spider-Man deserved something tailored more specifically to him. The seat seems very basic too, although some appealing details are present. Peter Parker's camera and the video game controller are particularly fun. Over the years, we’ve seen a lot of variations on the Spider-Man character, though. In Into the Spider-Verse we saw a reality where a very successful Pete did have a big Spider Lair of his own, full of display cases and high-tech gadgetry. (Of course, that version of Peter had some very serious things happen to him at the start of that film, too, so maybe everything is still “in character”.) Anyway, I suppose there’s precedent for this sort of thing. And, as we’ll see, LEGO has pulled in bits of Spider-Man history from all over the multiverse to construct this Spider Lair.

LEGO components are dropped, heated, crushed, twisted and analyzed to make sure they fulfill rigorous global safety standards. The rest of the lair makes use of a standard “pod” build. The design is modular, and thus easily expandable if you wanted to create a bigger custom display. On the plus side, this figure has some interesting decor. It’s a striking costume design that carries over well into LEGO form. However, I appreciate the consistent design features which appear repeatedly throughout the model. Trans-yellow elements are ubiquitous and the prison cell reflects the costume displays, although that decision has compromised its size. There is ample space for a minifigure though and the differing modules can be reconfigured very easily, detaching from the base and linking together using clips.

To the right is a slightly troubling inclusion – a Spider-Prison pod. Why would Spider-Man want to incarcerate his foes in his lair? Isn’t he in legal trouble often enough already? With so many alternate universe versions of Spider-Man (Spider-verse), it seems like this was a natural evolution for LEGO to take to try and ramp up the collectability of the entire theme and make increase the likelihood of people turning around and buying some of the older sets too. Young superheroes join Spider-Man playing games in his HQ. When 2 super villains force their way in, it's time for battle. Kids must use the amazing equipment and their own skills to save the day. Huh. I'd always known Kingpin as being a Daredevil villain (in fact, the only Daredevil villain I could name off the top of my head). Looking through his rogues gallery, the only other ones that I've even heard of (who aren't borrowed from Spiderman, or aren't generally considered to be hero or anti-hero characters in their own right) are Deadshot-I-mean-Bullseye, Tombstone, and Typhoid Mary. And mostly I just know them by name.

My overall thoughts of the set are surprisingly neutral. This is nowhere near a bad set, but not ahead of others either, it’s just, neutral. It does its job and that’s not something to look down on, the system works. That being said, I would have no hesitation in recommending this for a birthday or Christmas gift for kids and Spider-Man fans alike. As the Goblin-glider is foot-and-balance controlled in the comics, I have no complaints about there not being any obvious control surfaces for the Green Goblin minifigure to operate. I’m also happy to see a “classic” version of these designs, rather than going with any of the live-action versions. All LEGO Marvel Spider-Man playsets are cool and collectible and give kids the chance to relive favorite superhero movie moments and create imaginative stories of their own. Spider-Man’s lair shares plenty of DNA with 2019’s 76122 Batcave Clayface Invasion, from its central multi-screened computer terminal to its side sections, prison cell and vehicles. But everything’s much smaller here, and far more junior by comparison: it’s built across a single level, the bulk of the size is created by a handful of huge parts, and the whole thing just comes across as half-hearted. Villains frequently accompany these superhero sanctuaries and two such minifigures appear here. Venom has remained unaltered since 2019 and seems suitably fearsome, featuring an intimidating head with bared teeth. The torso design is comparatively simple but matches the character's traditional comic appearance and I see little justification for alterations.

I highly implore you to look through the decals yourself, as they have great details strewn throughout, but Spider-Man’s suit that is being analysed has leg printing, but the suit he is wearing does not? This does mean that both the suit being analysed, as well as the Spider-Man in the video game, don’t correlate to the physical Spider-Man that we get and I feel like that is a missed opportunity. With LEGO Disney Princess sets little builders can bring magical fairy tales to life. Travel the sea with Ariel, learn Arendelle's mysteries with Elsa from Frozen, rebuild Rapunzel's tower, and create a tonne of fantastical settings from the beloved classic movies. Build exciting scenes and characters from games Spider-Man’s spectacular headquarters measure over 5 in. (14 cm) high, 16 in. (41 cm) long and 6 in. (17 cm) wide and combine easily with other LEGO Marvel Spider-Man sets.

Join all your favourite goodies (and baddies!) with LEGO Superhero sets - there's Thanos, The Joker, Lex Luthor, DC Comics and Marvel superheroes ready to build and recreate all the best scenes. There is also LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Ninjago, both bursting with awesome characters and adventure. An ideal birthday, holiday or just-because gift for Marvel movie fans aged 8 and up who want to stand out from the crowd with the premier LEGO set Spider-Man’s HQ. Yeah...I should have said not only am I a superfan...I’m an aging superfan. I’d even be into a Madame Web! Next up is the other exclusive Spider-Man costume in this set. Labeled on the box as Ultimate Spider-Man, this outfit is more commonly known as the “Big Time Suit”, a stealth costume that first appeared in 2010’s Amazing Spider-Man #650. It’s had several video game appearances since then, starting with 2011’s Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. No accessories to be had here, as that wouldn’t be very stealthy, now would it? It might have made things a bit more “ultimate”, though. Includes Spider-Man, Green Goblin and Venom minifigures, a PC, PlayStation, basketball game, skateboard with ramp, drinks area, camera, training kit, motorbike, Iron Spider Suit, weapons and a jail.

As far as the physical lair goes, the Armoury and Supercomputer are parts of this set I see many AFOLs potentially blowing up to a greater size and expanding upon, whereas other sections, like the prison, leaves much to be desired and most likely will be discarded to the collection.LEGO components satisfy stringent industry standards to ensure they are consistent, compatible and connect and pull apart correctly every time – it's been that way since 1958. Spider-Man possesses various vehicles throughout the Marvel Super Heroes range and his concealed lair contains a maintenance area for one such vehicle. The colour combination of dark blue and red continues here to good effect and I like the trans-yellow lights beneath the motorcycle. Additionally, this vehicle can rotate on its elevated plinth and seems accordingly attractive.
