About this deal

It was very clear from the beginning that she would have to change,” says Grease’s costume designer, Albert Wolsky. “The idea was easy because she had been so girlish, so you had to go the other way – totally tight and sophisticated.” While Wolsky made Newton-John’s outfits for most of the movie, the infamous top and trousers were bought vintage. As Newton-John relays in her 2019 autobiography, the zip was broken and she was sewn into the trousers each morning. “They were so old, and there was just one pair, so there was no room for error,” she wrote. “One rip and disaster.” Sandy is an extremely beautiful, lovely, attractive, radiant and gorgeous Australian young lady with blonde hair, blue eyes, and a fair complexion. Throughout the majority of the film, Sandy wears very feminine clothes, such as a skirt-and-sweater set that are always in pastel colors, like yellow and pink, etc. At the National Dance-Off, she is wearing a white dress and matching white high heels (and, although seen very briefly, matching white panties). At the end of the movie, Sandy undergoes a complete makeover and transformation with the help of Frenchy to surprise Danny. She arrives wearing " female greaser" attire, which is a different look than she has been seen in previously. Gruner says humour is all-important. “You could read that final scene as her moving from one stereotype to [another],” he says. “[But] Newton-John plays that role with a tongue wedged firmly in her cheek … [The way] she looks to her friends for directions on how to drop the cigarette, for example.” Grease is an adaptation of a musical created in Chicago by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey in 1971. Suggestive dances, erotic innuendos, teenage hormones… Far from a family film, the musical was meant for an older public. Although director Randal Kleiser kept a few aspects in his film, the most scandalous lyrics were removed from the songs, to allow Grease to be shown everywhere, in theatres and on TV. Fun fact: before being cast as Danny, John Travolta played a secondary role in the musical on Broadway. Frenchy decides to cheer Sandy up by having her join her and the girls at a pajama party at her house, but Sandy fell ill from trying a cigarette and having a sip of imported dessert wine. To top it off, she got one of her ears pierced by Frenchy, saw the blood, and throws up. After the T-Birds arrived outside of Frenchy's house, they left with Rizzo, Sandy reflected on her feelings for Danny ( Hopelessly Devoted to You). Wolsky, a costume veteran whose career spans six decades, says it remains part of his reputation. “That will be on my tombstone, that’s for sure,” he says. “I’ve done Sophie’s Choice, I won an Academy Award for All That Jazz, but this is the one that I’m that I’m known for.” Two years later in the Summer of 1960, Sandy's cousin, Michael Carrington, arrives at Rydell High School as a British exchange student in his senior year. Frenchie had gotten a letter from Sandy explaining who Michael was and asked her friend to show him around Rydell. I only owned heart shaped hoops but here are some other great hoop earrings that would work even better. It's the number of gum chewed by the actors on set! It's not very surprising since the film is set in the 1950s. In the first and second world wars, chewing gum was among American soldiers' rations, to help them stay calm and keep their breath fresh without toothpaste. The liberating army became popular in Europe and the candy was a symbol of American Cool. John Travolta, choreographer
