About this deal

I wouldn’t wear this to work, unless it was at a more informal team event. Maybe an outdoor picnic or a friends and family day. It’s not too much of any one thing, but a perfect blend of everything that’s great about summer. The balance of lime, tequila and oceanic salty notes allow it to unfold beautifully on my skin. Venturing outside of the Tommy Bahama universe for your signature summer scent is another option. There are plenty of colognes that could be great alternatives to St. Barts. Here are a few of my favorites:

St. Barts Seascape for Men is an aromatic and fresh spicyfragrance that recalls the relaxing feeling of vacation with an effervescent top and a warm, cozy drydown. St Barts is definitely a summer cologne and it comes alive in the heat. It can be worn either day or night and it’s perfect when dining outside, or relaxing at the beach. Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca by Guerlain comes from a classic fragrance house that is known for well-made and brilliantly constructed fragrances. It’s a unisex summer scent that comes off super refreshing with notes of lemon, mint and fresh cut grass. Tommy Bahama has released two new fragrances for the spring/summer 2023 season: St. BartsSeascape for Womenand St. BartsSeascape for Men.

St. Barts Seascape for women captures a Caribbean escape with coastal florals, sparkling seaside citrus notes, and driftwood and amber musks, creating a lasting, breezy sense of sea-salted comfort. As far as the Tommy Bahama scents go, this is probably my second favorite. St. Kitts is still the best of the bunch, if you want to go with a more tropical fruit cologne, without the tequila.

Now, while that lime notes is pretty potent at the start, it really isn’t an overwhelming cologne at all. I would say it is light to moderate and you might even want to test spray yourself a few times and see how it reacts. The subtle vanilla drydown shows some slight green notes, then finishes with a musky vanilla that reminds me of suntan lotion. It’s an all-around fun, relaxing, chill-out summer cologne. Creed Virgin Island Water: I got a couple official Creed samples of this. This is a very linear scent, and has a very obvious natural coconut dry down. The opening has a bit of lime scent on the sample I have, but not very obvious. This almost smells like some sort of coconut tanning lotion, but completely natural. Ultimately, what you get is a marine soaked lime with saltiness and tequila. Underneath that is bouts of woodiness and creaminess. Very summery and bringing up memories of the island life. There is a very light vanilla/musk combination, that when blended with the lime and guava, smells somewhat lotion-y with a suntan lotion like creaminess.Tommy Bahama’s brand identity is 100% summer, with a focus on living the Caribbean lifestyle. Other choices in their cologne line include Tommy Bahama St. Kitts and Tommy Bahama Martinique. St. Barts by Tommy Bahama has been a mainstay for me since first discovering the cologne a few years ago. It was an instant love. I see these two compared alot and some reviewers saying that St. Barts is as good, if not better than Virgin Island Water. This is going to be a short review ( my opinion) of both of these and how they compare.

As far as when to wear, this is a casual scent all the way. Summertime or other warm weather. Ideally, outdoors and by the sea. I’d wear it to the gym sometimes, but mostly just on summer days when I was out and about.

St. Barts for Her

I really do like the lime note here. Yes, it is loud and bold, but that’s a part of the appeal. The tequila note is interesting and is one of the reasons it gets noted as a ‘poor man’s version’ of Creed’s Virgin Island Water, which uses rum instead. Longevity is also pretty moderate, but certainly not terrible at all. With heavy sprays I can get 6-7 hours, on my skin. If I go a few sprays, 4-5. More than 30-years later, the brand continues to grow with clothing, accessories, and of course, colognes. St. Barts is definitely a compliment getter, especially when I was talking close by with someone. I got a nice compliment on my cologne, so I took this as a good sign that the fragrance had softened in the dry-down without disappearing altogether.
