About this deal

It’s bright, it’s visceral and it’s in your face. Wavelength is a game anyone can play. There are very few rules to remember, very few components and it feels oddly familiar. Even non-gamers, once they have seen a round being played will be up in your face in the next round arguing about why your clue was rubbish. Wavelength will get your game night off to a great start, everyone is involved at all times and not just a fun game but a great team activity too. Finally you've thought of it, you have your clue: “pineapple” it is. Susie immediately globs on and leads the conversation. This right here is the second-best moment; the chatter between teammates and often dissenting opinions leads to wonderful conversations. Sure, maybe pizza toppings aren't too exciting or spicy. But what if the card has “good person” and “bad person” at the extremes and your teammate offers the clue “Boris Johnson”? With hundreds of cards and all kinds of topics, the conversation sprouts off in interesting directions and careful thought breaks into wild laughter. Giving and discussing clues is the heart of the game. And it’s just as chaotic and confounding and comical as you could want from any party game. While you’re in the throes of agony over where to nudge that needle, the opposing team has a much easier task. They just have to decide whether they think the zone is to the left or right of the other team's guess to earn a bonus point, so they’re not left out of the action as it unfolds.

To begin the Psychic will close the screen by rotating the plastic handle until the player can’t see anything on the spectrum. The Psychic has closed the window so they can’t see the target area. This is all subjective and you need to worm into your teammates’ brains to be clever. Thinking of that perfect clue can take a while, unfortunately. This is the big downside to Codenames and it's still present here. One person is sitting quietly with their brow furrowed while the rest are maybe twiddling their thumbs and just waiting. Hopefully you've seen an interesting movie or read a good book lately and can share your unsolicited thoughts to pass the minutes. After Scoring, the other team begins their round UNLESS the catch up rule is triggered, detailed in the next section. In the Psychic Phase the Psychic creates a clue for their teammates to hopefully get them to guess the right spot on the spectrum. The Psychic will do all of this without letting any of the other players see what they are doing. For example, if I am giving a clue using the word an old coin. Using the adjective extremely to qualify the clue is giving away too much. Benefits of playing the wavelength board gameThe idea is deceptively simple, and it might also be a lot of fun – are you on the same wavelength as the rest of your team? Gameplay Ever wanted to be part of a game show? Ever wanted to play a team-based board game with a great prop centre-piece? Look no further, Wavelength may be the game for you. Wavelength is a team game where you must crank a big dial in the middle of the table to try and work out where, between two sides of a scale, a clue fits. This process of deliberation goes on until the team decides on where to turn the wheel. Other team members also try to throw you off by opening giving bad suggestions. After the Psychic gives their clue, it's up to the rest of their team to READING THEIR MIND and turn the dial as close to the center of the target area as they can. It's bright, it's visceral and it's in your face.

The zone runs from two points at each edge to four in the middle. Their challenge is then to give a clue that tells their team-mates where on the dial the scoring zone is. Like Codenames, Wavelength can have periods of downtime, but it's worth it for the conversation in-between. The objective of Wavelength is to give your teammates a clue allowing them to accurately predict where to target on a spectrum. The team that does the best job at this over a number of rounds, wins the game. Setup for Wavelength Give a clue: Look at where the target's center is located spatially along the visible area of the wheel. Now think of a clue that is conceptually where the target is located ON THE SPECTRUM between the two concepts on your card. Rules for how to give clues can be found later in this book. Wavelength is a social guessing game, consisting of two teams, active and inactive, with each team trying to read the mind of the other. A player from the active team gives a clue to help members guess the position of the scoring is on the wheel.

This is the core of the game and it is almost entirely free of rules: teammates can discuss, debate, and argue in any way they like.

We will go over the components, the setup, gameplay mechanics, and the clue restrictions needed to play the game successfully. How to play Wavelength The opposing team then tries to decide if the actual position on the scale is higher or lower than that proposed by the active team. Points are awarded for accuracy (two to four) and the opposing team are awarded a point if their higher/lower decision was correct. The first team to ten points wins. The idea is deceptively simple, and it might also be a lot of fun - are you on the same wavelength as the rest of your team? Gameplay After the psychic has given the clue, the active team discusses among themselves, with the goal of knowing where to turn the dial. They will choose where to place the dial. Left/Right phase The other team analyses where the other team placed the dial compared to the clue and the wavelength card. They will need to decide if they think the center of the target (the four point section) is to the left or right of the position of the dial. The players can discuss before making a decision. When they have decided they will place the guess marker in the slot to the left or right of the wavelength card. The Psychic’s team has chosen their location for the dial. The other team now has to choose if they think the target is to the left or right of the dial. The team has chosen to place the guessing token on the right side because they think the target is to the right of the dial. Scoring in WavelengthEveryone on the team has the right to turn the dial at any time. It's up to the team to determine how to negotiate this. Work together with your friends, react in real-time with synchronous dial movements, and express yourself with emoji reactions. If a Psychic ever gives away the target location after giving their clue, either verbally or nonverbally, it's up to everyone playing to decide whether to penalize the team.

He then takes the wheel and closes it fully and sins it to randomize the location of the target area. He then opens it to see where the scoring area is, making sure no other person sees it. They draw a card that has two opposing concepts on it, like "Underrated - Overrated" or "Hot - Cold". Looking at the example above, the target is on the “Loud side” but not entirely all the way down, so the psychic has to give a clue that can help the team members guess as accurately as possible. In this example, the target is slightly to the "hot" side, so the Psychic says "Coffee" since coffee is hot, but not the hottest thing imaginable. After the Psychic has given their clue, they are no longer allowed to say ANYTHING-not even clarifications-and must keep an entirely straight face.Remain on Topic: Your clue should relate to the concepts printed on the wavelength card. You can’t use one of the words on the wavelength card for its double meaning. For example you can’t create a clue where “hot” is utilized as attractive instead of a high temperature on the hot-cold wavelength card. If so, congratulations. We will help you not only understand the process but take you by the hand through each step of the process on how to play wavelength. Close the screen: Using the plastic handle, close the screen completely. Now turn the box to face your team, so they can interact with the device.
