Set to play a flurry of UK shows this Spring, Callum Beattie touches down at London’s Bush Hall on April 27th. Hitting Glasgow’s beautiful Kelvingrove Bandstand on August 29th, it’s set to be a busy year for the songwriter.

Callum Beattie is a Scottish singer-songwriter signed to 3 Beat Records. He has released six singles, two EPs and his debut album People Like Us was released in May 2020.Curator Graham Chalmers is excited to have Callum along at the Radisson RED Sky Bar, which has amassed a large pedigree of famous names performing there, such as Arielle Free, George Bowie and Baby Strange. Each to their own, but I write for myself and those are the songs I want to record and release. If 22 writers have been roped in by some exec to come up with a song, that’s not something I want to put out. Collaborating and evolving songs with my band and friends is very different.” Dave and I were managing her and had put out her single with Ella Henderson. She died of Ewings Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer. To say she had a massive impact on this record would be an understatement.

The artwork utilises a photograph by Gavin Watson, whose images of Thatcher-era Britain capture a fragmented nation. Callum explains:

I grew up in a post Thatcher Britain, in a fairly rough part of Scotland, raised by my dad, and experienced the poverty and roughness of those times first hand,” he comments. “Culturally, it was a very specific period in history, where you could almost feel the class divide on the local streets. I feel strongly that we are moving towards a culturally similar period in history.”

The teenager passed away from a rare form of cancer but Callum and Dave did make her dream of releasing a single come true and are now heavily involved in the music therapy charity she inspired. A Scottish singer will launch his album at an intimate venue in Glasgow, with two full-band performances at the Radisson RED Sky Bar. Callum Beattie's Vandals is available now on all platforms.
