About this deal

I’m married to an action-thriller movie buff, so even if I prefer my stories a little calmer, the occasional blood-pumping, edge-of-your-seat film can be fun. I think that’s why this book worked for me. It’s a straight-to-screen type of book. It’s got action, chills, thrills, peril, cat-and-mouse chases, threats, violence, corruption, characters overcoming the odds, contract killers, diverse characters, and once again some serious badass female energy! Many combatants involved in these campaigns feel that they were conducted under false premises, and were additionally tainted by ignoble domestic and geopolitical political motivations, and ultimately question the meaning and validity of the mission. From Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David Wood, a battlefield view of moral injury, the signature wound of America's 21st century wars.

To save their lives, the trio will have to revisit the nightmares of their childhoods and confront their shared past – a past that holds the key to everything. Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for sending me an ARC of What Have We Done in exchange for an honest review. Judge Ben is dead - I can't remember exactly how, but I’m pretty sure one of the sexy blonde lady twins got him? So now the FBI is involved because of Federal Stuff. AFs previous two books are full of twists and turns, cleverly connected characters, and plots that keep the reader on the edge of their seat. this story has none of those. its honestly the most straightforward mystery/thriller i think i have ever read. the main past event is given away in the prologue and the current present day events are so obvious that im not really sure what the purpose of reading is. with the “whodunnit” and the “whydunnit” given away, i feel like theres really nothing left for the reader to discover. Finlay has mastered the thriller genre with this novel . . . . Finlay superbly creates a character-driven coming-of-age tale that is full of twists." —Library JournalTonight, after the show, you all have a choice to make,” Tom says. He spins around and fixes his gaze on Donnie. “It’s him or me.” After the meet-and-greet—the selfies and poster signing and awkward conversations with drunk people—the VIP room clears out and Tom calls him over. I am sure that this book will find its audience, but I don’t personally enjoy Action movies, 🍿or books with this type of plot-so this was a MISS for me. His continued slant against the military turned me off and it became more difficult for me to regard him as a credible source. Again, I believe the stories but don't buy into his conclusions and don't believe they represent the larger portion of combat vets. And if combat vets take away that PTSD treatment doesn't work and that it's very difficult to heal from moral injury, they will become even more reluctant and skeptical of therapy, making my job more difficult and their view of their own lives more hopeless.

I totally understand that this might not work for everyone, but it was so different from other Thrillers I've read lately, it honestly felt like a breath of fresh air. Since The Nuremberg Trials, however, we know that we cannot give up our moral responsibility for our actions--as much as military officials try to convince us otherwise. Explosive, whip-smart, and compulsively readable, What Have We Done sets a new high-water mark as Alex Finlay’s best thriller yet.”— Sarah Pekkanen, #1 New York Times bestselling co-author of The Golden Couple They, all in one way or another, relive their past, the troubling times, the secrets, the big secret, that they seem to think is the cause of their possible demise. There are some crazy people involved in this tale, including a bunch of assassins who once again are over the top. As mentioned above this is an ott book with ott as it secondary theme, but I liked it. Every so often, I enjoy the bizarre, the unreal, the no that can't possibly true books, that allow me to really escape into a place that just can't ever be. Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press/ Minotaur Books for sharing this amazing digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest opinions. This sounds intense and exciting, but I did not care enough about the characters to be invested in their fate. Transitions from the present to past time was abrupt, without warning, and could be confusing.

Thanks to the author, St Martin's Press, Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the ARC and audio copy. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review* Donnie, what’s going on?” Pixie has a concerned look on her face. “Rehearsal started half an hour ago. Tom is pissed.” By noon, she’s rushing into the lobby of the SoulCycle on Massachusetts Avenue, downtown. Though the studio is only seven miles from Jenna’s house, it took forty minutes to get there. D.C. traffic is brutal, but it’s still nothing compared to Shanghai or Kabul. There’s a SoulCycle in Bethesda, much closer to home, but old habits from her single days are hard to break. And Emma L is her favorite instructor. What Have We Done is both an edge-of-your-seat thriller and a gut-wrenching coming-of-age story. And it cements Alex Finlay as one of the new leading voices in thrillers today.
