About this deal

When did finding the best curling wand get so damn confusing? There are countless styles of tongs out there and they all give different curls; from tightly defined ringlets to loose beachy waves. But how do you know which shape wand will work for you? Well, I've tried to take some of the mystery out of curler shopping, by showing you exactly what each style of tong/wand/styler does to the hair (or my hair, to be more precise). Because I don't know about you, but when it comes to beauty I want need visuals. I want to see if the results are worth dropping all that hard earned cash on. Like the original Airwrap this is a premium hairstyling tool at a premium price, but the speed and quality of the curls produced by the Airwrap, plus the benefits to hair health, make it worth the investment if you curl your hair regularly. The curls will hold for a few days. If you have stubborn, unmanageable hair, this can be the solution to all of your woes.

Use heat... we all know that heat can cause damage, but when you're hair is super stubborn, there's no escaping that you need the temperature to be on the high side. Make sure you protect the hair the best you can with a heat protection spray* and use a good ceramic heated tong/wand. Hopefully you will be able to understand the type of waves I mean with the photograph above. I personally love the effect that the wand gives as I’m not a fan of tight curls. I’d much rather have looser looking waves. For me, the waves lasted for a good few hours. However, they did appear to have dropped significantly by the end of the day. This was the case even with a mist of hairspray to keep them in place. A wand hasn't got a clamp, so you must wrap the hair around with your hand and hold it there. The good thing is you can pull the hair taut for a tighter curl, or gentler for a looser look. Watch out, these take practice so watch your hands! To ensure the effective and even distribution of heat, this product has a ceramic coating for its skinny barrel. This also makes it suitable for all hair types and guarantees smooth and silky results. Titanium: these barrels are good for hair that’s coarse, hard to heat or unmanageable, while containing the same negative ions that help reduce frizz and protect hair as tourmaline. What exactly do you need to curl your hair? Well, some people may not want to use heat, so you can use No Heat Rollers*, or plait your hair when damp for a wavy look. Ceramic and tourmaline: these curling irons are the most popular, as well as being among the safest. If you curl your hair often, this is the material you should go for as it maintains a consistent temperature throughout the barrel. It releases negative ions that smooth the hair’s cuticle, eliminate frizz and make it appear shiny. Metal steam: This type of barrel can be good for thin hair that doesn’t easily hold curl. It releases steam, which helps replace the moisture the metal removes. The steam also helps the hair hold curls in place for longer. If you find that curling your hair with a long, straight wand makes your arms ache, the Hot Tools Curl Bar might bight be the answer to your prayers. Its unconventional, right-angled shape allows users to curl their hair without ever raising their arms above their head. While expensive, it’s lightweight and exceptionally well-built, with a brilliant temperature range and an innovative built-in timer that helps time your curls to perfection. That, paired with the heated barrel’s uniform diameter, means you can get consistent curls every time. After styling you can keep the curls as they are, or brush them out while the hair is warm for a Hollywood-style wave.

Every curling wand tends to have a slight learning curve, especially if you haven’t used one before. You’ll get used to how to maneuver this product easily, though, so you shouldn’t worry about its use at all. If you’ve been around long enough, you’ll know that trends come and go. One day pin straight hair is in, the next thing you’ll know, perms are already all the rage. However, it also doesn’t hurt to have the means to change up your look every now and then. The NuMe Classic Wand 25mm is a great all rounder. Use it for classic curls, or for loose waves. It's barrel is straight all the way down, so to achieve an even look. When it comes to curling hair, the key is to getting the right curling wands or tong for your hair type, and the look you wish to achieve.

How It Works

Technically, this isn't a curling wand or a curling tong, but it's one of the best hair tools on the market for creating long lasting curls. This even curls poker straight Oriental hair, and the curl holds for more than 24 hours! A brilliant choice for those of you with hard to curl hair. Despite looking very similar, not all curling wands are made from the same material. It’s actually rather important to know what the difference is when choosing a device, since some of these materials are better for your hair than others. It has sleek, simple controls too. On the rear of the barrel, a circular LCD screen displays the temperature and this screen can be pressed inwards to set the timer. Simply turn the dial that sits neatly around the screen to adjust the temperature to anywhere between 160°C to 230°C.

Use hairspray... this may seem like an obvious one, but you may be surprised to discover that you don't need a whole can, so long as you select the right one. Schwarzkopf Got2b Glued Blasting Freeze Spray* is ideal as it holds everything exactly where it was when you sprayed it. It may seem like a good idea to go for a curling wand that reaches the hottest temperatures, but keep in mind that such a model won’t always deliver the best results. While a higher temperature will speed up styling, it could also cause more breakage and leave hair looking lifeless – which isn’t a look you want. The market is flooded with heated hair tools, but we have narrowed it down so you can see which are the best curling tongs and wands out there.
