When I first saw the Katana advertised, I thought it was just another internet fad. There always seems to be a piece of gear that reviewers say is “too good to be true”. But the Katana Series lives up to the hype, and delivers in spades. This is a cheap amp that is worth way more than the price tag in my opinion, and BOSS has made a customer for life with me.

The Tone Studio software makes it a doddle to create a custom five-effect pedalboard and load it up into one of the preset slots… then immediately create another one, using five different virtual pedals and a different virtual amp, to store in one of the others. Katana MkII’s five primary amp characters offer everything from organic vintage tones to modern high-gain sounds, plus a dedicated voice optimized for acoustic-electric guitar. The characters have now been extended with newly voiced variations, providing a wider palette of tone options to craft your personal sound. Five Effects at Once I think this is because all of the magic is happening behind the scenes. Between the global EQ and power amp, you have full control already over how the amp sounds. Usually having this much control can be confusing. But this leads us to the other reason I think the Katana really hit the mark.
