About this deal

So I’ll just talk about the SQ. It’s a cassette. For a cassette it sounds fantastic. If you don’t like the sound of sometimes too clean and crisp CD’s, the cassette will round everything out and make it more natural/warm sounding. One last thing….I am still trying to figure out if this is a reissue or a bootleg….I’m leaning towards bootleg because I cannot find any info anywhere about an official re-issue release….and to me that is really odd considering this is such a highly sought after LP. On the other hand, an authentic second pressing version should have a catalog number of 72445-11087-1. A vinyl pressing with source audio from the 1993 Lollapalooza show in Irwindale. The date listed on the auction of the show is: 7/7/1993. However the show was actually in August, not July. The bootlegger has likely used the same source material as the many CD bootlegs floating around that were made from this source: “Tales From The Dark side”, “Sleep Forever”, “Westwood One” “Opium Den” . Ironically if the bootlegger was more resourceful there are plenty of great Sound Board recordings from 93’ Lollapalooza. A poor, poor counterfeit pressing that offers nothing but a (probable) CD > Vinyl transfer. The actual release of Lateralus by Tool was mixed differently for the vinyl release. This just a sad & poor attempt at making a bootleg.

In fact, the high price of Aenima on vinyl isn’t something new. Vinyl records of the album had a high price tag even when the record was first released in the late 90s. Hey, just a thought, but this would be a great topic to discuss in the Forum’s -> Lounge section (“if it can be verified”). It isn’t clear whether this prospective vinyl reissue will include their Opiate EP, or if it will include the compilation album Salival, released in 2000, but at this stage, we’ll take whatever we can get. As of today, there are only 15,000 official vinyl copies of Aenima in existence. However, there have been rumors that Tool intends to reissue all of their albums on vinyl. If this does happen, it’s expected that the going price for Aenima on vinyl will drop significantly. How Can You Tell the Difference Between Official and Bootleg Versions?

Versions

This disparity between the available supply of official releases and the demand for them is the main reason why it’s almost impossible to find this record sold below a price tag of three figures. I was able to come across where some car manufacturers are starting to not install CD players standard.

The album’s level of demand is amplified even more by the fact that Tool is one of those bands whose fan base is incredibly devoted and obsessive. Many of them are willing to pay top dollar to complete their vinyl collection of the band’s discography. Hi, I’ve found an offer on discogs for Tool-Aenima and I was wondering if it’s an original press or a good fake. Hope this may clear up any rumors or any sort of doubt about the fate of things. However as a collector of all things out of date, i have recently sold VHS tapes and Laser Discs so obviously there is always going to be a market for things out of print, out of date, and the like. Hope to hear some other responses. Etching: Side A: 72445-11052-1-A , Side B: 72445-11052-1-B, Side C: 72445-11052-1-C , Side D: 72445-11052-1-D The artwork for this album is nothing special. It’s not a picture disc, and the front cover has none of the holographic qualities of the original CD version.

Credits

This is a different version, obviously, from the blue version because it is “more complete” as it is a “double album”. I remember when this album came out. Bought it on CD immediately. I also remember seeing the record displayed at Tower Records. I had given up on vinyl at that point. And the cassette? Forget it. As previously mentioned, there have only been two official releases of Aenima on vinyl. They’re referred to as the first and second pressings of the album, and when it comes to how they look, they’re almost exactly the same. If the seal is lopsided or is at another position, there’s a pretty good chance that this version is a bootleg. Or, it may have been used before. Claiming it’s a Reissue This is an original OFFICIAL 1st pressing of Tool's "Aenima" 2x LP on Zoo/BMG records. I bought this record the week it came out in 1996 and it's been in my collection ever since. This is NOT one of the unofficial reissues. Both original inserts are included. This record has been out of print for long time and, to my knowledge, there has never been an official repressing.

I already asked for many pictures and they all seem to match the guide, but still I’m not sure if it’s an original press. All those bootlegs make me suspicious about the listed offers online. Partlysourced from Mp3 rubbish floating around on p2p networks in the napster era, some of which isn’t even tool (Wrong way). This also explains why the price of Aenima, as well as vinyl records of other Tool albums, has gone up significantly more than vinyl records of other iconic 90s albums. Top 5 album for me. Aftter all these years, a buddy told me about how fantastic the cassette sounds. Just bought one. Can’t wait to hear it, and compare to CD.Any version of Aenima on vinyl you find on the market that doesn’t have one of these catalog numbers on it is a bootleg for sure. Make sure to copy these numbers and keep them on you while buying. Position of the Seal While the majority of Tool’s albums, and their 1992 EP Opiate, have seen a vinyl release in the past and are widely available, some remain outside of the grasp of your average fan. Tool’s seminal 1996 record Ænima was initially only released in limited numbers on vinyl, and their 10,000 Days record has never been officially released on the format, but has been widely bootlegged. I couldn’t find anything verifying none of us will be able to buy a CD of 10,000 days, Undertow, etc (other than official OOP ones from collectors) end of 2012. I don’t want to make any assumptions about Tool’s items until there’s verification. Someone has taken all of the randomly labeled tool mp3’s that floated around in the Napster era and made a bootleg vinyl from them. There’s a nice Tool font used, and some Pink Floyd-ish cover art. The vinyl itself is blue. Santa Monica, a sublime cover isn’t actually even Maynard or Tool.
