About this deal

So said broadcast legend and long-time fan, Jo Whiley on the BBC's Glastonbury coverage this year just after the boys had sung their Cornish hearts out on the Avalon Stage to rapturous applause from a packed crowd. They're the original buoy band, straight outta Cornwall, and having already landed one hit movie based on their incredible story, The Fisherman's Friends are ready to set sail on the sequel and another album! When a group of Cornish fishermen came together to sing the traditional working songs they’d sung for generations, nobody, least of all the fishermen, expected the story to end on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury.

Because they are semi-professional, the band do not tour extensively, but usually embark on short tours in November and February/March. At that first meet-up in that Port Isaac sitting room back late in 1990, the old mates sat around on sofas and yearned about what they wanted to sing and how they wanted to do it; there were four fishermen and an ex-fisherman, various life boat men and coast guards, and a marine engineer for good measure; fishermen and their friends. Based on the true story of the chart-topping Cornish singing sensations and their hit 2019 movie, 'Fisherman's Friends: The Musical' is a feel-good voyage about friendship, community and music which smashed box office records in Cornwall. It was a whirlwind 12 months and the demands of the music industry took their toll; where once they hauled nets, they're now expected to land hits and the notorious 'second album syndrome', plus the pressures, pitfalls and temptations of their newfound fame, started to bite hard. In the original line-up, all of the members of the group "grew up within half a mile of Port Isaac harbour" except for John McDonnell who is a Yorkshireman. With the addition of some instrumentation (and it must be said youth) from a couple of mates from just down the coast in Padstow (itself a town long-steeped in musical tradition), they embarked on their momentous and well-charted voyage. Then there's the small matter of their 2022 performance on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, the most famous music festival in the world. At the inaugural Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival back in 2004, unexpectedly the group gathered an massive and hugely appreciative audience on Custom Quay. This album is everything you want it to be with songs of the sea, sometimes stirring, often poignant but mostly foot-stomping, rip-roaring fun!

If an album is 'missing' that you think deserves to be here, you can include it in your own chart from the My Charts page! Their first album with Universal, Port Isaac's Fisherman's Friends, was recorded in St Kew Parish Church, Cornwall, [11] and released in April 2010.Then there's the small matter of their impending performance on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, the most famous music festival in the world. Fisherman's Friends One and All- starring James Purefoy, David Hayman and Maggie Steed leading a cast that also includes Ramon Tikaram (Jupiter Ascending, EastEnders, This Life), Jade Anouka (His Dark Materials, Last Christmas) and Joshua McGuire (Lovesick, Anatomy Of A Scandal, Misfits) We re-join the band a year after the unexpected success of their debut album as charted in the first film. They are spotted by a fish-out-of-water music manager on a trip from London, who must learn that there is more to life than selling your sole for fifteen minutes of fame. The producers of the film, Fisherman's Friends, bought the band's life rights to be made into a feature film. This facilitated the adoption of natural, freewheeling harmonies very much in line with traditional Cornish singing practices, as noted by the Reverend Hawker back as far as the early 1800s, where participants would congregate in a semi-circle and ‘strike sound’. We also sell a wide range of refurbished Mobile Phones and Tech from major brands like Apple, Samsung, Sony, Microsoft and much more.
