About this deal

I started thinking about whether or not my expectations are much, much lower for this little lens than yours might be. I am aware of corner and vignette issues. The compactness of the lens keep its usage high in my bag. I have been using my Zonlai over 1 year and I still like it. I am biased in my opinion as I always prefer smaller and lighter gear.

The kit lens from either Lumix or Zuiko is excellent at wide to mid range - it only falls off in resolution near the 40mm zone. The kit has AF, anti-shake mechanics, signals distortion and vignetting correction to the camera body (and to programmes such as DXO if you shoot in RAW). So why buy a manual lens then? Get it...You just need more experience reading the peaking function. Maybe this video ( https://youtu.be/aMShIo-fHcs ) will help you. I have 15 (vers 1), 21/4, 28/1.9 and 35/2.5. They were bought for and continue to be used on Leica film cameras (M3 and III). Only the 28/1.9 is as good at the edges as the Fuji lenses ( it's a retrofocus design), the others have problems in the corners until stopped down, although they have other characteristics that some find attractive. The only digital cameras they work well on are the Leica Ms, because of their special sensors, and they are rather expensive! For this review, the lens was tested on a Fujifilm X-S10 using Imatest. Want to know more about how we review lenses?Yeah - it's close. Im OK with the vignette, the smudgy corners bothers me more. It'll definitely be perfect on on M43. Not sure what to do myself My FE28mm doesn't get that much use - even though it's the best IQ lens I have - better than the 35f1.8. I was kinda gambling to see if the 7artisans is something I'll use as much as the FE28mm...mainly as a walkaround landscape lens...and to also lens MF. Not convince that MF is for me either. This puts the reviewed lens at the higher end of the price range, but it can justify that with its impeccable performance and the fine quality of the resulting images.

I guess my problem is more that I can't distinguish when the colored outlines in focus peaking are most "in focus". The outer focusing ring does leave a little to be desired on this diminutive lens - but a bit more practice on my part might help with that. That was in reference to the Wesley 24/1.8. For that lens, the markings were in the right relative distance to each other, but the lens focused past infinity, so I marked a spot for where the infinity stop should actually be on the lens barrel. Sharpness might not be quite as crisp as a software corrected AF lens, but where this lens shines is in bokeh, build quality, form factor (the thing is TINY) and overall usability. That said, I quite like it. It's small, has surprisingly good close focus performance (where the Fuji 23/2 is weakest) and dirt cheap.

Whatever the camera, the results will give a degree of indication of the lens quality, I'd suggest. Thanks for that video. I'm going to try setting the peaking display to low so that it might be a bit more accurate for me. Approximately 90% of those images, on those albums, are made using 7Artisans 25mm f1.8 lens with Fuji XE-1camera. The 25mm 1.8 is about the same size as an Industar 50mm 2.8, for anyone familiar with old Soviet rangefinder lenses, projecting forward slightly more than the width of my X-Pro1 body, with the tapered-in body style of Fuji's 23mm and 35mm f2 native lenses. Operation is better than any Russian lens I've owned, more German in feel than anything. The finish is virtually identical to the X-Pro, and aesthetically a good match. I use the 7Artisans on my X-E3. It's light, small enough & sharp when stopped down slightly. Very good for street photography.I own a Zonlai 25mm and 35mm, you are a hard marker/reviewer I would give the 25mm better score than you more like 4 stars for quality and price weighting. You judge this lens wide open in all circumstances for a lens at this low price. You should conduct a similar review for much more expensive lenses from Leica or any branded lenses . considering their price would you give them 4 or more stars?
