About this deal

The Scarlet and Ivy series just gets better and better. In this one (book 3), Scarlet is determined to star in the school ballet, and a lot of clues about their mother. But then Miss Finch disappears and is replaced with a new teacher. 'Poison letters' are being sent to everyone, and 'accidents' are striking in the most unexpected times. Who's doing this? So yes, big mystery. It’s the best kind of mystery writing too, the kind where, if you pay close attention, you can figure it out yourself, instead of waiting for it to be explained. I felt more and more engaged with each clue as I tried to beat Ivy to the metaphorical punch.

I loved this book. It was so creepy but cool at the same time, with a lot of unexpected plots- which you can never guess! I was pleased to find that the twins meet their aunt, Aunt Sara. They find out the truth about their mother as well. But rumours swirl like ghosts around Ebony, and not all of them are nice. And when a prank on All Hallow’s Eve goes horribly wrong, it’s Ebony who gets the blame. I also like how in this book the differences between the twins become a little clearer, partly because other characters decide to abuse those differences. Although their thought and speaking pattern is still very much the same, and therefore I couldn't always remember who's point of view I was reading, I like how Scarlet and Ivy are two different people in this book, making different choices and having a different influence on other people and each other. It’s summer and as a special treat after the horrors of last term Mrs Knight announces a school trip to Shady Pines Hotel on the shores of Lake Seren. Scarlet and Ivy are thrilled to get away from Rookwood for a break! Scarlet and Ivy are resigned to staying at Rookwood School for Girls, all the better for getting rid of the horrible Principal Batholomew. With a new acting Principal, Rookwood will at least be safer to attend. Or maybe not?

Scarlet and Ivy is a middle-grade series of six books, the latest one (and last in the series) was released in January 2019. The books follow the adventures of Scarlet and Ivy Grey, thirteen-year-old twins who attend Rookwood School, an English boarding school in the 1930s. Throughout the books, we get to know the girls and their family, along with their friends, and the teachers at the school as they solve a series of mysteries. Other than book one, The Lost Twin, the books are told in chapters that alternate between the perspectives of the two girls. When the girls get the chance to audition for a theatre show of ballet Sleeping Beauty, the girls are excited but Scarlet more so as she wants the main role of Aurora so starts getting secret lessons after class with Miss Finch to improve. So when her teacher disappears mysteriously, a new teacher, Madame Zelda, shows up randomly and something seems off, just where is Miss Finch? Twins Scarlet and Ivy Grey can’t wait to sign up for the school trip and get away from classes for a few days. But nothing is as it seems; the creepy lakeside hotel and the deep waters of Lake Seren hide dark secrets. Precious things disappear from their rooms, a malicious force leaves a trail of destruction and mysteries start to surface. If they ever hope to leave this place, the girls from Rookwood School must face the danger head on... GM: Which was your favorite twin to write and do you feel like you identify with one more than the other? With evil headmaster, Mr Bartholomew, safely out of the picture, life is looking up for Scarlet and Ivy. Ahhhh! This was such a BRILLANT book💕 The story was gripping and there were many twists throughout the book❤️ It is a mystery middle grade and I relished reading it!!!❤️ It was super fast paced!!! There's also the case now that she's here, horses are being set free and girls getting pushed out of Windows, fights, letters and more strange dreams and behaviour, just what is happening next at this school? GM: Were there any other characters you especially enjoyed writing? If so, what was it about them that inspired you?
