My favorite quote is "Failure is acceptable. but not trying is a whole different ballpark." This has a deep meaning to me because it is saying its better to try and fail rather than to not try at all. Inspires me to play my best no matter how good the other competition is. As long as I give it my best. This quote stood out over all the others because it was most inspiring to me to give it my best no matter the difficulties or competition. Jordan’s impact on the game of basketball has been immense. His incredible athleticism and skill led to an unprecedented level of success on the court. He was the first player to be named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) five times, and he won six championships with the Chicago Bulls. In addition to his individual success, Jordan’s presence in the NBA gave the league a new level of credibility and respect. With his own inspiring words, Michael Jordan, the most extraordinary athlete of our time, shares the rules he has lived and achieved by. Underlying his enormous accomplishments are a set of simple principles that provide the foundation for his entire life. He draws on these to show us all how we can learn to set goals and overcome obstacles, confront fear and self-doubt, commit to our dreams and avoid distraction, be a leader and a team player, master the basics to reach new heights in excellence, and reap the rewards of self-discipline. Relentless by Tim Grover

The long-awaited premiere of ESPN’s The Last Dance has finally arrived. With the NBA season indefinitely postponed and not likely to return anytime soon, this is the most exciting event for NBA fans since games were called off last month (all due respect to the NBA 2K and Horse tournaments, of course). If The Last Dance has piqued your curiosity and a 10-hour documentary covering Michael Jordan and the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls is not enough to satiate your desire for Michael Jordan related content, here are five books about Jordan that should help keep you entertained between episodes. Playing for Keeps: Michael Jordan and the World He Made by David Halberstam This book may be the best book I have ever read. I feel that since I have been involved in many sports I can relate to how he was feeling throughout his career. I was also able to understand the plot lines very easily because it was different parts of his career. I also watched the documentary “The Last Dance” which talked about the Bulls championship franchise. Since I watched that as well I was able to make connections between things that he talked about and things that he didn’t. I really enjoyed hearing Micheal Jordan’s view of his career and comparing it to people that analysed his career. There was a lot of drama with those championship teams and to hear what the best player had to say was very interesting. Through it all, Jordan showed the world that greatness, true greatness, comes from the inside out. He remains perhaps the greatest practice player in the history of sports, his desire to improve upon his own example legendary. When critics questioned his all-around ability, he became the game's most dominant defensive player at his position. When teams decided to close down the lane and eliminate drives to the basket, he became a deadly jump shooter. Larry Bird and Magic Johnson had the most successfully teams of the 1980s but never won more than two consecutive championships. The Bulls won three straight--twice. i didnt dislike anything in this book because there were so many things that related to me on how he loves a sport so much and how he wanted to be successful at it and it gave me more and more ideas on how i can keep loving the game i love.Roland Lazenby’s Michael Jordan: The Life is an in-depth biography that covers the legendary basketball player’s entire life. From his humble beginnings in North Carolina to his rise to superstardom in the NBA, Lazenby paints a vivid portrait of Jordan’s life and career. Through interviews with those close to Jordan, Lazenby provides insight into what made him such a successful athlete and person. He also looks at Jordan’s struggles, particularly with gambling, and how he was able to overcome them. Overall, this book is an essential read for anyone interested in learning more about the life and legacy of Michael Jordan. It is an incredibly well-researched and comprehensive account that sheds light on the man behind the myth. Not long after ESPN scored its first ever Academy Award for Ezra Edelman’s nonpareil OJ: Made in America, a masterclass in longform investigative journalism that drew comparisons to Mailer and Caro, the network announced another multi-part documentary series centering on an American sports icon. The Last Dance, a 10-part film jointly produced with Netflix, promised an unvarnished deep dive into one of the most transformative stars and feted dynasties in the history of sports: Michael Jordan and the 1990s Chicago Bulls.

In Playing for Keeps, Halberstam takes the first full measure of Jordan’s epic career, one of the great American stories of our time. A narrative of astonishing power and human drama, brimming with revealing anecdotes and penetrating insights, the book chronicles the forces in Jordan’s life that have shaped him into history’s greatest basketball player and the larger forces that have converged to make him the most famous living human being in the world. The book that I read was For the Love of the Game: My Story by Micheal Jordan himself. This story is told by one of the greatest of all-time and how he became a legend. He begins the story with how he started his professional career. He reflected on his college career and what he went through while he was at North Carolina. He explains how all the attention he was getting from reporters did not change his play style. This is a story that truly shows a Great in the making. In critique, I thought this book was long (although very readable) and would like to see a condensed version sometime in the future.Jordan’s words “Don't let them drag you down by rumors just go with what you believe in.” in this quote he said that to not let people tell you things that will make you not want to do what you really want and believe in. Michael believed that he could become a famous basketball player and could be something in life. Some people believed in him and some people didn’t and Jordan didn’t listen to them because he knows that he was good. This book was nice because it has comments from teammates and people who worked will him and they wrote things about he and wrote he it felt to work will him and how he was when he is not playing basketball. Michael also talked about then and how it felt to play with them. Jordan’s impact off the court has been equally profound. He was an inspiration to many, and his influence transcended basketball. His brand of clothing, shoes, and other products have become iconic symbols of success and style. His philanthropic work has also made a positive impact on many people’s lives. Basketball journalist Roland Lazenby spent almost thirty years covering Michael Jordan's career in college and the pros. He witnessed Jordan's growth from a skinny rookie to the instantly recognizable global ambassador for basketball whose business savvy and success have millions of kids still wanting to be just like Mike. Yet Lazenby also witnessed the Michael Jordan whose drive and appetite are more fearsome and more insatiable than any of his fans could begin to know. Michael Jordan: The Life explores both sides of his personality to reveal the fullest, most compelling story of the man who is Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan is an enigma, probably most of all to himself. He’s a man who has everything that the world could ever offer, and at the same time seems to have little to nothing in his life of true value. The game of basketball gave him everything during his tenure with the Bulls, and then took away everything after his retirement except his fat bank account. In the midst of his “success” he lost his familial relationships and alienated many friends and mentors.
