Throughout the programme, there had always been an atmosphere of camaraderie amongst all the writers, but here it was felt more than ever. Observations and questions were offered in a genuine and supportive way.Elizafield is at the Bonnington Road end of Newhaven Road. You can drop off at the venue but there is no parking in Elizafield itself. Lothian buses 11 and 36 stop near by. The programme began in 2014 as the Drama Production Writers' Scheme and was run by the BBC's in-house Drama Production department. Since 2016 the scheme has been run by BBC Writers. Introduced by Artistic Director Matthew Warchus in 2015, The Old Vic 12 is a group of developing artists ready to take the next step in their careers. The scheme provides access and insights into top-level theatre-making, mentoring from industry experts, opportunities to deliver masterclasses to emerging artists and paid opportunities to collaborate with each other to create brand new work. One day the façade finally fell, it all got too much and at a health visitor appointment I fully broke down. The health visitor was supportive as was my GP, but in the end I said I just think I need to go to A&E. From here my local mental health crisis team took over, they came out every day, twice a day, and they were amazing. Knowing that someone else was coming was so reassuring. Family members and friends were also hugely supportive, they sat with me, effectively on suicide watch. HighTide festival, ensconced in its round, cavernous brand new space at pop-up venue The Mix, reflects the democratic nature of theatre. Audiences and actors are equals, and all voices are heard, monitored and weighed up, no matter how much personal views may conflict with those of the characters on stage. It's an important sentiment, and an essential one for Nessah Muthy's Heroine, directed by HighTide artistic director Steven Atkinson. Theatre includes: Electric Rosary – Bruntwood Prize Judges’ Award; Astronauts of Hartlepool – VAULT Outstanding New Work Award (VAULT Festival); The Dogs of War – OffWestEnd Award for Most Promising New Playwright (Old Red Lion Theatre). Audio Dramas include writing for the world of Doctor Who and Torchwood. Tim has had readings with National Theatre Studio, Orange Tree Theatre, Paines Plough and Manhattan Theater Company. His weird fiction podcast North West Footwear Database was featured on BBC Radio 4 Extra. Tim was also the recipient of the Channel 4 Playwright bursary with Pentabus Theatre Company. Nathaniel Martello-White as Merlin, a politician, powerful, enlightened, and absolute. Fearless in the face of a King’s wrath, he follows his connection to his Gods in all things. [5]Everything is deeply personal,” Nessah Muthy says of her work. “It’s cheaper than paying for therapy.” In this masterclass, Nessah Muthy will be looking at the genesis of the writing process; how to get past that blinking cursor on a blank document. Through practical writing exercises and example texts, Nessah will teach participants how to interrogate characters, and build fleshed out, three-dimensional people; with a want, a need and an objective. Drawing on her own experience she will also focus on how this differs between writing for stage and screen. In 2023 she was listed in Deadline as A Rising Writer To Watch Out For and in Broadcast Magazine a Broadcast Hot Shot. All the kids are initially intimidated, but Nanny (Erin Geraghty) and her daughter Bella (Sarah Akokhia) soon put the children at ease. Nanna talks us through the models crammed into her home and, gradually, cherished memories take over the living room. We look at a tiny model of Nanny and Bella dancing at Butlins and a disco ball suddenly spins over our heads. Nanny remembers a rainy caravan holiday and shining rainbow-lights burst through the ceiling. The real world and the imagined begin to merge.

It was inherent that we knit in the kind of ideology of the play into the way it was made,” she said. “[The making and writing of the play] were kind of in symbiosis, and should always be feeding each other. So [sustainability] was literally written into the DNA before I started writing.” Her ambition is to become a showrunner after tasting creative autonomy with Cradled, her half-hour story about modern-day motherhood for Channel 4’s On the Edge anthology series. As I got more and more poorly with my second child however, it grew increasingly difficult to tell where exactly the thoughts were coming from and, truly scary to admit they might be manifesting inside my own brain. Sarah’s voice is extremely funny, honest and caustic,” he says. “She’s sort of like the best mother in the world and the worst mother in the world. She will leave her kids on the side of the motorway to make their own way home but also fully support them through their quite extreme difficulties.” Streeting, Louisa (4 October 2022). "Medieval TV set to be at Blaise Castle until Christmas". Bristollive.Steven Elder as Bedwin, the Bishop of Caer Cadarn, advisor to the king of Dumnonia and one of Mordred's three protectors. [6]

Nessah: Yes. My OCD was something I had lived with since I was a young kid. (Although I had no idea it was OCD or indeed what OCD even was.) Growing up in the 90s and early noughties, with no internet and not as many people talking about mental health, I basically thought I was some kind of monster. There’s a history of mental ill health in my family, but I had no idea that intrusive thoughts were a thing. So I remember being so ashamed and not being able to tell anybody the true extent of the thoughts I was experiencing. I may have tried once or twice but the look of horror on people’s faces made me feel unable to speak out about it. Knowles wrote Model Behaviour from a place of anger. She was ready to participate in a TV documentary about harassment in fashion when the film was “ominously” shelved. She was not a victim herself but knew others who were and felt strongly about representing their stories. So she started writing. Stuart Campbell as Derfel Cadarn, a Saxon warrior and disciple of Arthur. Though he sees Arthur's flaws, he recognizes greatness and knows that Arthur is the only hope for Britain. [4] Jordan Dark portrays a young Derfel. Theatre is his “first love” and the setting for the second act of his career. His Bush Theatre stage show Red Pitch tells the story of three football-mad teenagers coming to terms with gentrification in their neighbourhood. It has hoovered up awards, including clinching Williams the most promising playwright prize at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards.

Nessah’s co-written 4 part thriller for Channel 5/Story Films has recently wrapped along with her episode of Grantchester (Series 9) for ITV/Kudos. Anger turns into violence, and Grace is at the centre of it all. "This isn't hatred, it's love", she says, just as those activists she befriended turn away from her. The whole play becomes caustic, as the desire to protect one’s family (in her case, a two month-old daughter) transforms from care to neglect. Muthy doesn't let up, burdening each character with their own set of problems and, as a result, crams the 90 minutes with a non-stop barrage of exposition and sadness. Williams is now working with Fudge Park to adapt Red Pitch for television alongside other projects. The 28-year-old has written an episode of an unnamed Apple TV+ drama. He has been working on a project with Daniel Kaluuya and DC Moore, the playwright. A compelling new play by Nessah Muthy about love, loneliness and guilt between three generations of women.
