Sennheiser dynamic drivers deliver a well-extended sound response with dynamic bass. The Sennheiser HD400S is the successor of the Sennheiser HD 4.20! And as such, it has a great build quality, is comfortable on the head, and fits within a comfortable budget. But how does it sound? Let’s take a closer look with this Sennheiser HD400S Review! A Great Value! – Sennheiser HD400S Review In the Box

There is an emphasis found at different points across the upper octave, upper treble, and lower treble which are brought on by the high frequencies of the Sennheiser HD 400S. A cut is also noticeable around 9 kHz which gives the highs a special shape able to offer detail to high-frequency instruments while keeping sibilance away. Creation Consumer Finance Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (Register no. 311518). You can't speak of naturalness or authenticity with the HD400S and it definitely can't be described as an all-rounder. Stage and imaging are average here. Large items (delivered by two people, such as appliances and furniture) can be returned using our Home Collection service. The Sennheiser HD 400s headphone is a wired headphone with a supraaural ear coupling. It does not feature a noise-canceling microphone. The maximum sound pressure level of 120 dB makes it perfect for listening to music, watching movies, and playing games without any distortion. Constructed with premium materials, it guarantees long-term durability and reliability. The Sennheiser HD 400s headphone features a sensitivity of 120 dB and an impedance of 18 Ω. With a total harmonic distortion of 0.5 %, this headphone delivers clear sound quality. The cable length of 1.4 meters makes it easy to use with various devices. Featuring a closed acoustic system, this headphone gives an immersive sound experience. The Y airplane plug and microphone input add to the convenience of usage for travelers and professionals alike. Though it weighs 217 grams, it is comfortable to wear for extended periods. For example, when I was listening to the song Miles Runs the Voodoo Down by Miles Davis, the wide-panned electric guitars and keys contrasted well with the trumpet in the center. Additionally, the highs of the cymbals and trumpet contrasted wonderful in height from the body of the bass guitar and toms down below the head. The sense of depth wasn’t much to write home about, however came through in the song when the far off snare fills entered. These fills contrasted well with the intimacy of the trumpet. Overview The HD 400S exacts a secure clamping force around the head while remaining comfortable. Built into the underside of the headband is thin padding coated with soft rubber or silicone material to ensure the headphones stay in place. Although the earpads seem too small for over-ears, they are very ergonomic and manage to be very comfortable for hours with a mixture of lay-on (in front of the ear) and ear wrap (behind the ear). In addition, they have a robust design with enough twist room for the ear cups and adequate padding, although the headband is somewhat uncomfortable.

Think wired budget-friendly over-ears with an in-line remote incorporated to help you take hands-free phone calls and control your music time; the only image you should have is that of the Sennheiser HD 400S! These headphones succeeded the Sennheiser HD 4.20 so you already know the HD 400S offers excellent build quality, provides great comfort around the head, and fits your budget so you don’t have to break the bank to acquire them. With an inline mic and remote, the Sennheiser HD400S headphones are the perfect on-ear headphone match for your smartphone or tablet. Featuring a one-button smart remote on the cable, the HD400S lets you take control of your music and calls. Play, pause and skip your music and accept or drop calls – all at the touch of a button. Tapped twice, you can also call on Siri or Google Assistant for voice guidance instructions.Sennheiser aimed to be balanced when designing the HD 400S. The bass range doesn’t leave me wanting more but also isn’t overpowering. It has a nice balance that works well with all genres. While bass parts tend to be more clear than warm, this is still very good for a headphone at this price. I was impressed by the lows and how well they were able to deliver clean and balanced bass. Mids There is a low mid boost noticeable around the 300 Hz mark on the middle Frequencies of the HD 400S Sennheiser headphones. This offers a good base to the pianos, electric guitars, bass guitars, and strings, nonetheless, we can’t call this feeling ‘a feeling of the body.’ On the other hand, we find that the midrange gets a sort of smiley face curve in the midrange due to a cut experienced around the 1 kHz mark accompanied immediately by a boost in the high mids. This ensures that the user wouldn’t get a cloudy feel but the levels of midrange instruments in the music feel slightly crooked. You will find that vocals are usually louder in the mix thanks to the high mid boost. One of the main considerations Sennheiser had for the HD 400S was its context of use. These headphones have a very low impedance, making them perfect for mobile devices that might not have the power to drive more resistant headphones. The driver is still of Sennheiser’s own design and can balance clarity with power. The detachable cable features a control unit with a built-in mic of excellent quality, especially for calls. The H400S is a headphone for mobile use, which can be used on a cell phone (18 Ohm, 120 dB) without any problems. It has good isolation, but the sound is too inconsistent and rarely works musically. The low frequencies of the Sennheiser HD400S has a sub boost around what sounds like 30 Hz. As a result, it gives lots of wonderful energy to songs that utilize sub frequencies as methods of creating emotional impact. It does a great job of making the lows sound big without getting in the way or clouding up the low-mids.

The audio cable is removable, but unfortunately the connector is not compatible with external cables. The cable also has a remote and measures 140cm. Sennheiser has done it again. The HD 400S performs well beyond its price range and is one of the better budget model headphones I’ve tried. It has very few bells and whistles and offers a simple means of listening that still delivers amazing clarity and quality. If you need a good first pair of headphones or need something that you can take out of the house, then the HD 400S is definitely for you.Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 31st October 2023.
