About this deal

The recipe introductions are on the fluffy side (I'd have liked more background/history) and only half of the recipes include photographs, which is a shame from a visual perspective as well as that of the home baker, who might like to know what the finished product should look like. In this completely modernised reissue, the 250 bakes include 20 brand-new recipes alongside all of the much-loved originals, which have been newly tested and photographed. In many ways British baking is very similar to our own, particularly if you were raised in the Virginia Tidewater or most anywhere in the Carolinas.

Drawing on her years of experience to create recipes for cakes, breads and desserts, Mary Berry's Baking Bible will prove to be a timeless classic. Join Mary Berry as she shares her ultimate food and baking recipes, all made simply and guaranteed to get smiles around your kitchen table! Mary is also an AGA expert and taught AGA masterclasses for many years from her home with Lucy Young. not particularly common in US kitchens outside the South, that's been changed to all purpose plus appropriate rising agents.Perfect for: Fans of the original will find plenty of inspiration in this new and improved book, and newcomers will have everything they need to embark on their baking journey. I'm a massive fan of GBBS so naturally this was one of the books I purchased in an attempt to self-educate myself on baking.

This is something that is quite important to me in a cookbook, and the first thing I noted when I cracked this one open was how few pictures there are. I've loved Mary Berry for years now and her newly revised baking bible is worthy of a spot in your cook book collection. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Somehow I think that whoever did the translation thought that perhaps we don't have those here and so they substituted maraschino cherries - absolutely NOT the same thing - as I've found that same substitution in another recipe or two that should contain candied cherries. Number One on my list is the Victoria Sponge - quickly whipped up, the layers sandwiched together with strawberry (or raspberry) jam and either whipped cream or a buttercream frosting and the top simply dusted with powdered sugar.

Traditional and simple, the humble rock cake is inexpensive and easy to make, but will never disappoint. So, I don't know, I don't think it's fair to judge the entire book on this one recipe because there are so many variables that can cause a bake to go astray that aren't at all the fault of the recipe. I can see this being given to someone just getting started, either with baking or moving out on their own for the first time.
