About this deal

The DM-40's ¾-inch soft dome tweeters are fitted with DECO convex diffusers that channel high frequencies in every direction. So you’ll enjoy a wide sweet spot and 3D stereo sound wherever you sit or stand. The Bluetooth module included on the DM-40 is simply for easier casual listening. Making the DM-40 an easier speaker to live with day to day, the inclusion of Bluetooth broadens the speakers appeal. Although we regularly used the Bluetooth connection with our phones and laptop we found the physical analogue cable sounded slightly better. There is a headphone port at the front of the master speaker for easy access when you want to switch to a different listening experience. Efficient and Smart Design Practically this means that the crisp sound quality does not decrease drastically depending on your location in the room. Front-Loaded Bass Reflex System To establish a connection with the speakers, you'll have to do it with the left speaker as it carries the necessary ports to establish the required connections. Of course, you’ll need speaker wires to establish the connection to your speaker.

The specially engineered ducts cut down on impediments and produce a clean, grand, low-end oomph regardless of your volume levels. Class AB Amplifiers For a compact and cheap studio monitor the Pioneer DM-40’s have plenty going for them when it comes to sound quality. Getting your room acoustics on point is half the battle when it comes to making the best out of your audio system.

Dexter has worked in the music business since the early 1990s. He has been a keen tech writer for many years and is still regularly involved in promoting prominent electronic music events in Ibiza and the UK. There are a couple of things worth noting about audio cables. When looking at studio monitors you need to understand what connection options they offer. Subtle in design, the moulded front panel visually looks very professional with a crescent diffuser moulded just below the tweeter. The diffuser not only looks great but helps direct the high frequencies around the bass driver. The speaker delivers a more equal sound to a wider area as a result. If you’re into mixing music as a DJ or just fancy something loud and happy to listen to then these might just be the pair of speakers for you. They certainly have enough drive to keep you entertained. If you want to listen for yourself then come down to Richer Sounds for a demonstration. These are a well made, substantial little pair of speakers, with the right feature set for this price point, and a forgiving, warm, engaging sound. Great for any DJ starting out who wants a step up from cheap computer speakers, but doesn’t want or need to spend multiples of this price on dedicated studio monitors.

It’s also worth noting that the speakers bluetooth will play at the same time as any physically connected devices. With no way of turning off the bluetooth module, anybody previously paired to your speaker can play over your DJ set with ease. Our Thoughts The inputs are certainly not extensive enough to suit a variety of applications, but they cover the essential needs. In any case, adapters can be of help if one wants more options. Especially if you want to practice your DJing skills, having a pair of speakers that make you want to move is an essential point to cover. The front mounted bass ports help the bass driver drop lower, moving more air as a result. Although most speakers feature a bass port, they are often found on the rear of the speaker. As a result most speakers suffer in performance if mounted close to a wall. Thankfully, Pioneer DJ have placed two ports on the front of the speaker, meaning the DM-40 is perfectly suited to being placed close to a wall. Although the connections are great for cheaper equipment, the DM-40 doesn’t feature any balanced connections. We don’t really expect any of the DM-40’s target market will be bothered by this exclusion though. With only more professional speakers and equipment requiring such a connection.

Trusted Shops Great studio monitors are probably the most important sonic tool to help you create and shape your music – they are, essentially, your digital ears. The amplifiers in the DJ DM 40 speakers are designed to ensure minimal levels of low distortion, even when cranking the volume. The tweeters and woofers are both aligned with each other so that there is no crossover between them. The DM-40 monitors feature a built-in Class A/B amplifier (left speaker) that delivers 2x 21W with amazing audio response and clarity. Perfect for use as reference monitors, or for your home studio / production set-up. This 2-way active speaker has an AB amplifier embedded in the left speaker. You’ll also find connections and controls for the speaker on the left speaker. One limitation to this speaker is that you can't swap which speaker functions as a left or right speaker. If you want a flexible speaker placement, you can achieve it with the available audio connections and how long your power cable is. Create a versatile home set-up that can deliver a rich, balanced sound for producing and DJing. These compact desktop speakers have been designed using professional speaker technology and effortlessly connect to all your Bluetooth® wireless devices. The Pioneer DM-40 offers two unbalanced connection options. A standard RCA connection along with a ⅛-inch stereo mini-plug. I would have liked to see a balanced option but in most cases, the unbalanced options will be more than suitable.
