About this deal

When it comes to storage, the Fractal Torrent supports up to two 3.5-inch drives and three 2.5-inch drives, allowing this chassis to support up to six storage drives. Add on any M.2 storage that you can place on your motherboard, and you will have more than enough storage for any standard use case. If you need more storage than that, you should look at Fractal’s Define series. i guess if you got front air flow for the gpu that can mess with the bottom intake. i would think bottom intake would be better then front intake. CPU temps you can take at face value, that you won't be able to brute-force, or differently optimize much better, but GPU temp is another matter. Taking GPU temp for the standardized + noise-normalized test and cross-referencing it is a good clue what to expect, but figuring out the pros and cons of your own setup you can optimized it way further. It's just that it is physically impossible to standardize a methodology that replicates how much each user can optimized their setup with better static pressure fans, and better taped around and parts removed from their case, there's just too many variables. Between the triple bottom intake pushing air through our RTX 3080 Ti and the two massive 180 mm front intake fans helping push away heat from the GPU and our test system’s i9-11900K CPU, load temps were almost identical compared to the same components on the open test bench. I am going to call this enclosure design a success, and I particularly like the look of the front panel. I wish there was a more elegant solution to a tangle of fan PWM and RGB cables, and that the hub was closer to the motherboard, but these are pretty minor complaints.

Fractal Design Torrent - Bad GPU temperatures - Cooling Fractal Design Torrent - Bad GPU temperatures - Cooling

Cases like this have been done in the past with success, and when you have people like Steve from GN advocating for cases with good airflow performance and teaching people why that is important, then it's kind of hard to go wrong unless the company is out of touch. Judging from Fractals popularity with pc builders, that definitely is not the case. The Torrent Compact does technically allow for E-ATX motherboards. However, be prepared to lose out on some cable routing options if you go that route, as larger boards end up covering a portion of the routing grommets. And as we’ll see later, cable routing space is already scarce. If you want to use a large motherboard, you should opt for the larger original Torrent, or another large case instead. The installation of the components was fairly simple in the Fractal Torrent. The case is spacious enough so that pretty much everything you can throw at it, will fit. In this build, I am using an ATX motherboard with two RTX 3060 video cards and a Cooler Master Hyper Evo 212 air cooler.

Power Supply:

Below is what Fractal had to say about their Ion 2 Platinum series power supplies in a recent press release. Indeed, having the bottom fans pulling air in I was inclined to believe my GPU would still have proper air at least against its bottom side, will test both ! Once the AIO fits reverting 2 fans would be a piece of cake. Sandwiching fans are a mix between AIO and case fans, AIO has its dedicated fan curve maybe I will have to match both fan curve since the radiator will be in and "air tight" sandwich

Fractal Design Torrent Review: Totally Different, Totally Cool Fractal Design Torrent Review: Totally Different, Totally Cool

i have a problem with this guess. the augment here is the o11 XL vs the torrent and gpu temps. both case intake from the bottom but the 011xl the front intake as to do a 90 degree well the torrent dose not have to do that so...the torrent should win the cpu cooling test. Since we reviewed the original Fractal Torrent last year we have included our results from that case as well as the new Compact model, in part because we don’t yet have any other results from our new test rig. But since the original Torrent was tested on our previous testbed (with an Intel Core i9-9900K and an RTX 2070 Super), not our new i7/ RTX 3070 Ti setup, this isn’t meant as a direct comparison. I am running a 10900K with RTX 3070 Ti FE, on that case and my temperatures are pretty darn good. Normally my room temperatures are 68F to 70F. After running my PC for a little while, the room was at 73F. I ran a test and got about 51.5C on Average, with 70C holding most of the time and in some occasion jumping to 77C Max. My RTX 3070 Ti FE, was on Avg 55.8C and in some occasional hitting 81.5C Max. These are during spike, which last a second. I cannot pull these on the Corsair 680X using an AIO, which of course I had about almost the same low to idle temperatures when the computer was not in use of 27C-to-33C with the AIO while the air cooler was about 33C to 35C. Keep in mind the room was already warm so the air temperatures could be lower during idle if the system was not running. Will be running some tests when the system is up and running. Also still considering adding 3 extra noctua fans for a push-pull configuration on the radiator. Since you don’t have the option to mount a radiator to the top of the case (remember, that’s where the PSU lives), you’re limited to impractical mounting options for liquid cooling, either in the front of the case or at the bottom. We couldn’t fit our EK 240mm D-RGB AIO in the front since we’re using a Gigabyte RTX 3070 Ti Gaming OC, which is 12.5 inches (320 mm) long. I even tried mounting the AIO first, then installing the GPU, but that didn’t work either. While moving their PSU mounts to the top of the enclosure will be seen as a controversial decision, you will see for yourself that this choice has a huge impact on the Torrent’s airflow and cooling performance.
