About this deal

This was a great story that I enjoyed reading it and felt the feelings how Mr big encountered through the illustrations and pictures. I enjoyed reading this book, the illustrator had used their imagination with the pictures and would be engaging for children. The message of the book is clear, essentially do not judge a book by its cover, and this story livens up the teaching of the age old message. Big's inner turmoil as unreachable distance often creates larger issues because of her misplaced feelings of unworthiness, and due to her propensity for not communicating truthfully until too late, results in a lot of painful misunderstandings.

Big grows as an emotional being, changing and evolving as the series progresses, moving past innate pain to suit Carrie's needs better, ostensibly becoming a "better man. Big becomes protective and immediately begins climbing the stairs to Aleksandr's room to reprimand him (or as he puts it, "kick some Russian ass"). Within seven months of his marriage, he begins to chafe at his matrimonial bonds and pines for Carrie; he initiates an affair with her. This book is beautifully written using short, sharp and punchy sentences which make reading this aloud or to yourself a delight. Big teases her about moving to Paris with a Russian and then tries to tell her that she's "The One".

This book firstly caught my eye because of its massive size and seems very appealing for children with fun, eye catching illustrations and colour. He has a tendency to take major emotional steps in the relationship more slowly than Carrie, which is depicted as a result of emotional unavailability. A nice story to educate kids about how we should not judge a person from his/her appearance; and even if you appear to be different from the others, there is still something inside you that will make you shine and attract the others.

With his trademark bold colour and masterful graphic simplicity, Ed Vere sensitively and humorously tackles the universal and current subject of inclusion, reminding the reader that to get to know someone you need to look beyond their exterior. Ed Vere did a fantastic job with the words as he made the text size larger or smaller for words he really wanted to emphasise. We used this book last year with Year 2 Around ‘International Music Day’ - the children wrote letters to Mr Big and we made a giant collage of him! Charlotte later gives birth to a baby—her water breaking while she is yelling at Big for breaking Carrie's heart. The film concludes with a montage of scenes from the girls' lives - Big and Carrie have successfully combined their desires and interests, and the two are content as their married life has grown past the "Terrible Twos". Books are linked to popular themes, like food and the environment, so your children can practise high frequency words. Natasha trips and breaks her tooth while chasing after Carrie, who ends up taking Natasha to the emergency room.

Then something wonderful happens, Mr Big received his first letter inviting him to join a band, from 'a friend'.Things changed for Mr Big in the end and he was not as lonely as he used to be as he had something to share with the world. Ed Vere studied fine art at Camberwell College of Art and has been writing and illustrating children's books since 1999.

Although his name is seen in that final shot, King makes a point in the DVD commentary that it is never spoken in the series. The pages are displayed with small and large font which links to the emotions of feeling lonely/Happy. I really loved reading this book as it is a great story about a huge gorilla that is made to feel really small on the inside. A broken-hearted and humiliated Carrie attacks him with her bouquet, shrieking "I knew you would do this!

Ed is also a painter, working from his studio in East London and is represented by galleries in London and Los Angeles. Enjoy some of our recommended books for younger children about animals, from classics like Dick King-Smith's Sheep Pigto modern favourites like Ed Vere's Mr. The notes of Mr Big’s music drift into the crowded city night and everyone is enchanted – who is this wonderful musician? This is the third picture book from an exciting new talent, whose previous titles The Getaway and Banana have received great critical acclaim.
