About this deal

It may be a mythical legend, but the fact remains that the Loch Ness Monster springs to many people’s minds upon hearing the word ‘Scotland’. He lives in the Scottish highlands, but once a year it becomes hairy haggis-hunting season and he must escape those pesky Haggis Bashers to avoid becoming dinner! Being English and growing up in England, the first time I came across haggis was when I was invited to my first Burns Supper at the tender age of 22, now a long time ago!

Illustrations comes courtesy of Mairi Hedderwick (author and illustrator of the Katie Morag series), giving these funny, charming characters the visuals they deserve. Discover the joy of reading with us, your trusted source for affordable books that do not compromise on quality. Feisty, independent and full of personality, Katie lives on the (fictional) Isle of Struay, off the west coast of Scotland.I bought this book mostly because the protagonist is my namesake and I thought it would be fun to read to my class (all the teachers are known by their 1st names). May contain markings such as bookplates, stamps, limited notes and highlighting, or a few light stains.

As the vibrant greens of summer slowly yield to the warm hues of autumn, there's no better time to experience the enchanting Scottish Highlands. Another common dish on a Scottish menu is ‘Balmoral chicken’, which is chicken stuffed with haggis and wrapped in bacon served with mashed potato and a creamy peppercorn sauce. We hope this list of Scottish stories for children inspires you, and if you have any of your own recommendations please do let us know!Burns Night and the Burns Supper originated after the poet’s death, when groups of his friends and acquaintances would gather in his memory, eat haggis, drink whisky and recite some of his poems, quotes and songs.

Hamish The Hairy Haggis - Lomond

If you’re visiting Scotland for the first time, it might be the first time you have heard of haggis. First published in 1886, this adventure novel is set around real 18th century Scottish events and is a thrilling tale for young adults. This is a great choice if you like all the other ingredients and want to try a little haggis for the first time. My personal favourite, is the haggis dog, served at the Highland cinema, which is a delicious, juicy hot dog sausage served with toppings of haggis, caramelised onions and a peppercorn sauce. You’ll see haggis on our own Distant Hills breakfast menu included as part of our traditional Scottish breakfast option served alongside a choice of bacon, sausage, black pudding, baked beans, eggs and tomatoes.Other enticing factors may be our hot tub and honesty bar, both well-deserved treats after an epic hike or climb!
