About this deal

The milk chocolate coating is, as expected, silky and sweet, whilst the nougat-y base is dark and rich, adding that hint of saltiness so beloved of an Oreo biscuit. Overall this wouldn’t be my go-to flavour – the banana flavour is just too artificial. It gets a 5/10 primarily because of the great texture and macros we’ve come to expect from the Carb Killa range. Peanut Nutter – 8/10 In 2015, Grenade launched their first Carb Killa bar (Caramel Chaos) and since then the range has kept on growing. No. I did none of those things. I ate them. Yes, there, I said it. I ate the rest of the box. I don’t really need to go on with this review, really, as this should say it all.

EVERY protein bar line has to have some variation on the classic fudge brownie flavour – it’s basically a right of passage at this point. Grenade have followed suit with the third of their Carb Killa flavours, so how does their offering work out? We are going to give you our honest opinion on what we think of them! The review team included a 4-year-old who has discerning tastes and is not normally a fan of no sugar anything. Tough crowd. The Armoury - Grenade Bar Flavours I’m impressed once again, but as I said, fudge brownie is a pretty standard flavour. It’s not my favourite of the bars so far, but it’s absolutely worth a try, if not only for a break from your average protein bar. Dark Chocolate Mint – 8/10 It’s a complete contrast to the likes of Chocolate Chip Salted Caramel or Dark Chocolate Raspberry, but it’s a bit of FUN. Fudged Up – 7/10Chocolate orange. You’re either a fan or you can’t stand it. If you’re one of the latter, you’ll be pleased to know that Grenade haven’t gone overboard with the orange flavour here. There was a time, a dark time, when I was a PB&J hater. Thankfully, I’ve since recognised the error of my ways and have become a COMMITTED lover (peanut butter first, strawberry jam ALWAYS). The question is, which pin to pull? There are 12 flavours (at the time of writing) and we have 11 of them here for you today… In this post I will review all the flavours I’ve tried so far, and I’ll update it as and when I try the new additions! Texture-wise this bar is a variation on Grenade’s newer formula. It’s soft and fluffy, with a nice crunch from the crispies.

They can also be consumed by the everyday person who’s looking to build muscle or by the person who’s just generally wanting to increase their daily protein intake. Are they healthy? Each Grenade Protein Shake contains less than 211 calories per 330ml bottle. HOW MUCH PROTEIN IN A PROTEIN SHAKE? With the Carb Killas, Grenade have managed to produce a bar which genuinely tastes like a chocolate bar. I’m not even lying, it’s amazing. Before we start, I will say it smells amazing – very strong strawberry and buttery (honestly) white chocolate. With each bite of a Carb Killa bar you take, it becomes increasingly hard to believe that it isn’t a standard chocolate bar. Carb Killa bars are perfect for anyone of on a low carb diet, or those looking to build lean muscle with a low carb, high protein treat. Why choose the Carb Killa protein bar? Thus, on seeing that Grenade had released a PB&J bar, I audibly shrieked with excitement (I never said I was cool). Grenade released this flavour in 2016 but, convinced I hated mint chocolate, I’ve waited until now to try it. Yet I think this bar could have been majorly improved if the chocolate flavour was more intense – maybe with a chocolate creme instead of the caramel layer – and the crunch was more pronounced. In other words, it would have been improved if it had actually lived up to its name…

Yes, Grenade Protein Shakes have gone through the Informed Sport testing process and are widely consumed by professional athletes and military personnel. ARE GRENADE PROTEIN SHAKES SUITABLE FOR VEGETARIANS? It’s certainly a good bar, but then we’ve come to expect that from Grenade by now. It’s nothing groundbreaking and it’ll never replace a Terry’s Chocolate Orange, but it is a decent bar Like most things, as long as you don’t over consume them…Carb Killas can fit neatly into your diet. Make-sure that the majority of your diet is made of wholesome foods, for example: meat, fish, veg, fruit. If 80% of your diet is made up of foods like this, and the other 20% is made up of protein shake(s), protein bars, and other foods…then you’ll be fine! Question time… Grenade have even switched up their usual ‘structure’, swapping the soya crispies for peanut chunks in the chocolate layer.

Low Impact Carbs

Although strong, the banana flavour isn’t overwhelming and mixes well with the chocolate and the hint of salt from the caramel. Like most of the other, newer flavours, at 226 this bar has a few more calories than the older range. The carbs are also a little higher at 20g, but this is matched by Grenade’s standard 20g of protein.

Grenade High Protein, Low Sugar Bar - Cookies and Cream, 12 x

I’m SO glad Grenade has done another sweet/salty flavour. They nailed the White Chocolate Salted Peanut flavour, and I had all faith they’d nail this one too. This bar features a peanut butter flavoured base topped with a gooey strawberry layer and spindled with peanut pieces, then coated in milk chocolate. There’s the same nougat-y texture to the base as in the other bars. It’s smooth and chewy, with the crispies adding a satisfying crunch when you take a bite. The crushed peanuts add an authentic peanut flavour and add a light crunch which does well not to disrupt the overall creaminess of the bar.Carb Killa protein bars are manufactured using polyols. Polyols are calorie-reduced carbs, which contain around half the calories of sugar. Excessive consumption of polyols might cause gas or laxative effects in some people. For this reason, it is advised not to eat more than two of these protein bars per day. Who doesn’t love chocolate? This bar should be every chocoholic’s dream, but I can’t help thinking how different it can realistically be from the Fudge Brownie flavour… As usual, I have nothing bad to say about Grenade’s chocolate. It’s high quality, melts instantly and adds a delightful creaminess. Although they used to be called ‘Carb Killa’, this is not because they are low or ‘no carb’. It is because the carbs that are in it, are not just loads of refined sugars, which for something that tastes good, is rare.
