About this deal

Tom Ford's Jasmin Rouge is the perfect example of how to do a fleshy white floral without going into the indole territory (which tends to smell like excrement of various kinds on me.) I've heard that Mugler's Alien is the scent that many women choose to wear clubbing. Jasmin Rouge is the scent they would choose to wear once that phase in their life has passed, they've married a rich man and now attend classy dinner parties on the weekends. There's a hint at that sexy carnal smell but it's now smoothed down and refined, much like the woman I envision to wear this scent. Since I don’t like white florals, A La Nuit is kind of like a nightmare to me. I don’t think Jasmin Rouge smells like the actual flower, as much as it smells like jasmine tea. I think this makes Jasmin Rouge easier for me to handle. I also do like the ylang ylang in it. The jasmine character of Jasmin Rouge runs through the entire composition, from the green top notes laced with orange and cardamom to the ambery and indolic drydown. The crisp freshness of the opening accords is layered over the voluptuous richness of the floral notes. While jasmine is the main floral character, there is a distinctive presence of orange blossom and ylang ylang, which have a beautiful buttery quality. The bright, resinous note of pepper suggests both incense and wood, while the sweetness of vanilla rounds out its sharpness. I don't get the thing from this fragrance that would make me think that this invokes anything related to “rouge” besides maybe finding this scent to be appropriate for a red carpet walk. I think that it could be worn anytime of the year, if applied sparingly in the heat and more generously in the cooler temperatures. I also could imagine this being the signature scent of someone who loves white floral perfumes.

I love Jasmines too, since I was a teenager. I bought my first from Rene’s Perfumes in New Orleans. If you could only have one, which would it be? This stuff looks kind of crazy on paper, with a long list of exotic spices that would lead the reviewer to expect some sort of Orientalist fantasy carpet. But Jasmin Rouge has a touch of the gourmand supporting its jasmine, with those spices acting as mouthwatering garnishes to its underpinnings of (yes, that is really Mexican) vanilla. The new jasmine fragrance from acqua di parma is very nice (and a bargain -almost), but it also dries down without much character… An fresh/floral/spicy blast hits me: The is bergamot-cum-orange brightness contrasting with spicy pepper and ginger-infused cardamom. These two camps balance each other out quite nicely, although after some time the spicy side is moving a bit into the foreground. The jasmine promised in the name arrives too, although initially weaker before gradually assuming a more substantial role. Suzanna: Glad to save myself a special trip to try this one–and now will wait on your review of the Acqua di Parma before scuttling all plans to try/buy these fall jasmine offerings.

A touch of herbs - a nigh perfunctory duo of sage and wigs of thyme - lead is the he vanilla dominated base, which is givens a darker side by some cardamom, whilst an ambery but dull leather tries somewhat unsuccessfully to impress. This all is underlined by a generic woodsiness. Most of the other fragrances settle into some safe clean musky territory – a solution that in the best cases (BK L&T) I might find extremely pretty, but never exciting.

TOM FORD Private Blend Jasmin Rouge Eau de Parfum, 50ml

Star rating: 5 stars–outstanding/potential classic, 4 stars–very good, 3 stars–adequate, 2 stars–disappointing, 1 star–poor. It is restrainedly sweet, but remains a bit anaemic on me and is certainty not a particular dominant part of this mix. A pinch of neroli adds a bit of warmth, as does, to a larger extent, a smooth ylang-ylang that is sweet in a controlled way and neither especially rich nor creamy. The first hint of disappointment comes as the fragrance begins to settle into its drydown. The richness of the initial chords wanes and there is nothing to replace it. The fragrance begins to fade into a limpid and predictable pale wood and sharp amber accord. In comparison to the jasmine gold standard Serge Lutens A La Nuit, the leathery Serge Lutens Sarrasins, or the romantic by Kilian Love & Tears, Jasmin Rouge is simply an up-market version of a familiar crisp fruity floral. Though it is lovely, it does not offer any revelations. It's not the most unique scent, but it's one of the better done renditions of this combination of aromas and one of my favorite creamy white floral + vanilla scents that I've smelled. This is what I hoped that Guerlain's Terracotta would smell like on me, but that one gave me the indolic jasmine for a bit longer than I could comfortably stand. This one gives me wearable beauty from the very start, and I'm in love from the moment it hits my skin until the end of the day when it's barely detectable.Podaci su informativnog karaktera i podložni su izmenama. There's of course the obvious jasmine note front and center in this fragrance but I feel that it must be paired with some other white floral note that gives it a delicate side I rarely see in jasmine fragrances, especially when the note is allowed so much of the spotlight without much to challenge it. Maybe it's lily? Or a neutered tuberose/gardenia, but definitely not enough to overpower the integrity of the jasmine. There's also a creamy note like vanilla but again not enough to drench the florals in a vat of sugary sweetness. I would imagine the ratio of florals to the vanilla or sweet note to be at least 3:1. The idea of a jasmine laced with spices and enrobed in ambers and woods would have been so appealing that I doubt I would have followed the sensible rule of never buying blindly. Yet, today Tom Ford Jasmin Rouge arrives at a moment when there are already several excellent jasmine dominated compositions on the market so it has plenty of competition. It is an elegant composition, but given its luxurious pricing, I would prefer more surprise and character.
