About this deal

Insurgency: Sandstorm was released for Windows on December 12, 2018, through Steam. Linux and macOS releases were planned, but they were both cancelled in December 2019. [3] Though PlayStation 4 and Xbox One releases of Sandstorm were announced and intended to be released with the Windows version, [4] [5] their release was repeatedly delayed due to development issues, first to 2019, [17] then early 2020, then August 2020. [18] The PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S versions were eventually released on September 29, 2021. [19] [20] [21] An invited player cannot create a party if the leader left the party before the invite window opens Do I recommend Insurgency: Sandstorm? Absolutely! Whether you are looking for an excellent FPS, arguably one of the best I’ve played in recent years, or just looking for an alternative to the Call of Duty formula, look no further. Unlike other FPS titles, Sandstorm will challenge you and force you to think less as a player, and more like a soldier. It’s “time to kill” is ridiculously short, forcing you to be tactical and precise. It focuses on skills and delivers a satisfying and immersive experience.

The non-competitive versus playlist contains two modes that support up to 32 players: Push, Skirmish, and Firefight which supports up to 12. All three are enjoyable in their own right and offer sufficiently unique experiences, but Firefight stands well above the rest. The objective is deceptively simple: kill everyone on the other team or take all three uncontested capture points, whichever comes first. The catch is that because dead players can only respawn if their team takes an objective, the ensuing high-stakes strategy makes each match enjoyable and replayable. The tension is similar to that felt in Counter-Strike’s Bomb Defusal or Hostage Rescue, but with the chance for redemption after death. The six maps are at their best in this small-scale setting, but even here the unintuitive boundaries managed to frustrate me ever so often.

Special Edition

Sequel to the indie breakout FPS Insurgency, now with 5 million units sold. Sandstorm is reborn, improved, expanded, and bigger in every way. Insurgency: Sandstorm is available on the following platforms and all of these platforms will support crossplay: Peek around corners, tactically breach doorways, use smoke to cover your team’s advance, and call in air support.

Fixed an issue where the if a player unequipped all weapons but the knife before round start, they may spawn with no weapons. The gunplay too, also feels thoroughly enjoyable in a way that was, quite frankly, surprising. From popping off single shots through broken splints in a wooden fence, to dumping smoke into a building and going in with your gas mask or following tracers during a night battle with your optics, the gunplay in Insurgency: Sandstorm is fantastically evocative in a way that other games just haven’t been able to manage as of late. Fixed an issue where the Anchor, Imperial and Garibaldi beards become invisible when wearing the Balaclava OpenTeam voice chat may not work correctly after the first match while playing in Ambush and Defusal mode

Insurgency: Sandstorm PS4 Review

Hitting an enemy or hearing an ally be pierced by a round is followed by a hallowing yelp, scream or cry for aid. Footsteps are loud, with directional audio allowing for friend and foe alike to discern your location with a keen ear. Reload times are long and heavy. Recoil is all-consuming – for the first time, a game actually encouraged me to use semi-auto and single-fire modes on virtually all weapons to actually be able to tame them. Units shout out their movements, actions and when under fire. It all feeds into an overarching sense of immersion, before long I found myself thinking and acting like a soldier instead of a player, it’s brilliant, sometimes uncomfortable stuff. Unprecedented audio design with positional voice-chat for realistic teamwork, and heart pounding ambient audio to bring you into the battlefield.
