About this deal

The components of this fragrance are very well balanced, none stands out above the others, all are perfectly detectable but none is the protagonist, but rather they dance in unison during the life of this fragrance that is quite linear and has a decent duration with a moderate projection, rather perfect. for night use any time of year. There has been some negative chatter regarding Jean Paul Gaultier's, Kokorico. It is certainly different, but a good different that deserves an opportunity. Today was my first opportunity to try this fragrance - while not my typical fragrance (I am drawn more to the aquatic and citrus blends), I find it appealing and sufficiently unique to portray a message, "it is good to be different"... I haven't tested the original, and got a bottle of this fragrance (50 ml) for 19 euros at Sephora (well, not really a good sign for its future I'm afraid this is going to be discontinued soon).

But the marketing of fragrances has to operate on an international scale today, and I doubt that German, British or Chinese men or women consider the rooster's wake-up call a plausible name for a scent.Kokorico" is linear and only changes slightly after 20mt after apply, where an anise-like iris (and maybe lavender?) shows presence. To my nose is a very similar floral note as "Paul Smith Man"; soft, spicy iris note minimized to the maximum. The top of the composition features refreshing fig leaves, which provide energy, the heart is filled with raw cocoa, which stimulates (not the artificially sweet kind, but a natural extract), while woody notes of patchouli, cedar and vetiver express their masculinity and power. When I first smelled this frag, I was like “what the hell is that?” Now I’m at that point where I’m like “where in the hell is it?!?!?”

At that time I was not prepared for this dry, raw and bitter creation. It smelt strange but not in a way i found comfortable. Since then i have sprayed Kokorico randomly and just did it now again. It is excellent. The fragrance is all about the cocoa with the fig and patchouly exaggerating the raw greenness of the composition. It's still not a love, but i cannot deny its quality and the fact that i like it more and more. That sounded hopeful, that sounded like Habenwill - I had to ask to make sure I had understood him correctly. The fragrance is available as 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette with an accompanying collection of body care products (deodorant, shower gel, aftershave lotion). When I put it on my skin I knew perfectly why this rare fragrance was discontinued and that is that for the year it came out and the Gaultier standards (especially in the time of Puig) this is a "rara avis" in their army of "Le male" this fragrance can be perfectly niche, it is a dark scent with an almost organic earthy taste that opens with a cocoa-patchouli combo that lasts throughout its life, the cocoa here is not sweet, for those who do not know the cocoa beans Toasted and grated they do not have a sweet taste or smell but rather bitter and dusty, this facet here is accentuated by patchouli and a very natural and organic vetiver. I do not know the fig plants so I do not know what the smell of their leaves is (one of the main components of this essence) but without a doubt this fragrance combines that facet of cocoa powder and patchouli with a green, sharp, wild touch with an almost milky touch and not at all sweet, all this on a slightly woody base of cedar. This is a pleasant nightclub type fragrance. To me it’s like a mild greener dark chocolate version of Spicebomb or Terre d’ Hermes. There’s a slight note of plasticine to it too.

The opening is interesting. I had never smelled rhubarb in a fragrance before, but I can definitly detect it, a natural-smelling rhubarb on the opening, slightly citric and sweet. It lasts for about 30 min, then comes the delicious cocoa + patchouli combo, which reminds me a bit of a younger brother of l'Instant Extreme from Guerlain. I prefer this one to LIEDG actually, both scent-wise (in the heart + drydown notes) and perfomance wise. Kokorico by Night is a performance beast, a good choice as a clubbing scent. This lasts about 8 hours on me, and even after a whole evening of frenetic clubbing I could smell it on me in the morning through my hangover lol. Can you bare to live without this... maybe no…maybe yes. As it’s no longer available will you wish you had a bottle? Only if you were there at the time… like Diesel Masculine Plus, it lives on at its best as a memory rather than the reality of now… though a reformulation could transform this loveable sows ear into silk. Without looking like any masterpiece, but if it seems remarkable, because of what I mentioned before and because unlike many of his time, like 1 Million, Kokorico is balanced in all its phases. This is a fragrance for the eccentric person-- a signature scent. Something I can see the late great Prince wearing LOL. It is a dare to be different composition. Kokorico is a fragrance for someone who dares to be different. Someone who wants wear a scent that complements their unique style or personality but doesn't want to spend hundreds of dollars doing so. Kokorico is definitely niche style, and I applaud JPG for daring to make this unique fragrance, but I can't help but shake there is something missing from the sultry combo of fig, patchouli, and cacao. On positive note, it's perfect for all seasons and weather conditions. One drop from the Apo was enough to wrap me in a transparent aura, well perceptible even the next morning, but not slaying, not too dense.

I got this bottle at "Buy 1 Get 1 Free" promo at a department store. The other one I got was JPG Le Male, and I had to choose something else from the same brand. It was between Kokorico, Le Beau Male, and Le Male Terrible. I went for this one because I thought it has the most distant scent compared to Le Male. Surrounded by "products of the type" "Hugo", "CH" or "1 Million" (I can continue to infinity ...), aimed, rather, at a teenage audience, this perfume was a pleasant surprise for How different and daring it is.Kokorico" seems to me to be the forerunner of fragrances like Sentifiques "Testostérone", Diors "Sauvage" and all the powerhouses whose virility often overflows buses, trains, supermarkets.
