About this deal

These are some bold claims, but how does the knife’s injection system fare in reality? Unsurprisingly, there doesn’t appear to be any video footage of SCUBA divers stabbing sharks with the WASP, but several YouTubers have tested the knife on ballistic gel, plastic bottles, and watermelons to show how the system works: There's no denying that putting things in the dishwasher is a lot easier than hand-washing, but most knives need to be washed by hand. Robert Welch's Product Specialist told us "I always say good quality knives are like owning a Rolls Royce, you wouldn’t want to put it through a car wash. Kitchen knives can be easily rinsed after use and dried for maintaining the edge. Placing knives in the dishwasher is not terribly detrimental but will have an effect. The Tip, or Point, of the blade is crucial for accurate and fast penetration at the beginning of a Cut into, for example, a small animal when dressing it, or when making a hole in a piece of wood for say a Fire Drill of some kind. A knife is a relatively simple tool — a piece of solid metal (or some other hard material) with a sharp edge and sometimes a piercing point. Over the years, a few designers have tried thinking outside the box to develop knives which can deal more damage to a specific type of target.

The geometry of The SharkBushcraft Knife Point has been designed to maximise the Strength to Penetration ratio, relieving the high tensile forces that are involved when using the Point for its intended purpose. This is all achieved whilst enabling it to be easily maintained at its peak level of sharpness due to the flatness of the Spine and angle of the Relief. In a nutshell, when a knife has a wide Relief Angle and that Relief Angle is also the Primary Cutting Edge, there is a high degree of stability that can be obtained whilst sharpen. Stability, whilst sharpening, directly equates to accuracy, and accuracy directly equates to potential sharpness. It is, therefore, relatively easy to achieve a Razor Sharp Cutting Edge, with minimal practice. Often whilst designing a knife, which is, let’s face it, essentially just a practical working tool, many Knife Makers will ignore the strength and durability of the Point in favour of creating a knife that has Eye Candy appeal. The Belly of the Blade has been designed with enough curve to allow the skinning of small animals without ruining the skin of the animal as well as the high possible risk of the Point cutting or piercing into the internal organs and contaminating the meat. It has 3/4 Full Length Tang coverage to protect the knife’s Handle from accidental damage and to allow the knife to have a snug Friction fit. Please Note: Not available to anyone under 18 years of age, please do not be offended if we ask for I.D. The Full Tang has been given a well contoured stabilised wooden handle that fits comfortably in the hand, allowing you to work with the knife for extended periods of time without causing muscle fatigue or blisters.

If you properly maintain the tip of your knife blade, the rest of the cutting edge will follow suit!’Serrated knife: Also called a tomato knife, this small knife can assist you with getting ultra-thin slices from a tomato, as well as peeling citrus fruit. The serrated edge means it grips as it slices through fruit or veg. The most important design consideration required of any Sheath is that it protects the wearer from the Knife when it is sheathed, which requires the Sheath to be designed and constructed properly.

In the hand, these knives are lightweight and comfortable, and the non-slip coating on the handle is a nice addition both for practicality and looks. For the price, they did an excellent job of cutting through soft to medium foods, though struggled a little when it came to cutting up squash. Nonetheless, if you’re on a budget and want to keep sharp tips away from tiny hands, we’d highly recommend this set. The Welt also protects the Stitch line from the Razor Sharp Cutting Edge when sheathing and unsheathing the knife. The Shark is a Drop Point Sheath Knife designed to meet the needs of everyone from the enthusiastic Bushcraft & Survival recreationalist to the professional Bushcraft & Survival expert. It is a stylish, sturdy, well balanced, working, utilitarian knife that will prove to be a reliable and much loved friend … well perhaps Loved is too strong a word, but you get my drift?! The Shark Bushcraft Knife has a Full Tang, which means that the actual Blade extends all the way through the Handle to the Butt. Almost every knife, of quality that is, that has a Full Tang has a maximum Blade to Handle strength ratio, which basically means that it is very strong. This is not a good starting point if essential design considerations are being overlooked if favour of visual appeal. It is easy to design an appealing knife at the expense of utilitarian function, but difficult to design a knife that combines both form and function together.

If you were having two knives you’d want the second to be some sort of paring knife, the Robert Welch Signature 8cm is my most favoured knife, great for peeling, turning vegetable and for all fruit and salad preparation. Whilst the Shark - Bushcraft Knife was designed to be a broad spectrum ergonomic multi-purpose, working tool, it was nonetheless designed specifically with the Professional Bushcraft and Survival Instructors in mind. It was designed for maximum efficiency in each of the many tasks a knife of this type would normally be expected to do.

Then there’s Damascus: these pricey mottled knives have a carbon steel core, surrounded by layers of soft and hard stainless steel, the upshot of which is an extremely hard and sharp edge. We’ve been using these knives for weeks now and think they’re ideal for everyday kitchen tasks, such as chopping veggies, carving meat and slicing bread – though if you’re looking for a specialist blade, you’ll need to shell out a bit more or consider buying them individually. While we think it would benefit from one more medium-sized all-purpose knife, this is still a well-rounded set that’s certainly worth your money.Bread knife: The long blade with a serrated edge is made to cut through loaves without tearing the bread or squashing it. This is not so much a piece of sales patter as an Article about 'The Shark'Bushcraft Knife and what you should really expect, and sometimes avoid, when looking for a top quality knife. In stark contrast to the shortcuts that some knife makers include to their Relief Angle, The SharkBushcraft Knife Relief Angle is the Primary Cutting Edge. This basically means thatasuper Razor SharpCutting Edge can easily be achieved, and then maintained, that is second only to a Cutthroat Razor or a Samurai Sword. Other alternatives include ceramic blades. These are lovely and lightweight and much harder than carbon steel, with no need to sharpen and they don’t rust, although they can chip.
