About this deal

what was your reasoning behind the names? you can read about the use of sobriquets and pinyin names here. I will link to the detailed character intros once they exist! also, the character illustrations included in this are stunning! we need more art to be published in books, so heres hoping the sequel will have more!

Strike the Zither by Joan He | The StoryGraph Strike the Zither by Joan He | The StoryGraph

idk what i just read. this was the most confusing shit ive ever read. maybe i don't have zephyr's infinite IQ level that she so graciously reminds us of to compute what goes ONJoan He will stun readers with her latest book. Richly layered and highly creative, Strike the Zither offers a world brimming with war, love, and unforgettable characters. A truly magnificent book.’ Filled with twists and turns, Strike the Zither is a meticulously plotted, supremely satisfying story that explores identity, legacy, and loyalty in unexpected ways. This is Joan He’s best yet.’—Hannah Whitten, New York Times bestselling author of For the Wolf

Kingdom of Three Series by Joan He - Goodreads

This is a Joan He novel, so I already knew to expect plot twists and pain. However, while reading, I really never knew what would happen next. Even if I could predict one part, I had no idea how it would play out. At one point, I told myself it had to be a stopping point so I could sleep, but I couldn’t bring myself to put the book down. Also, some of the parts creeped me out a bit. Not going into too many details since the book isn’t published, but yeah, this was definitely a war story haha. My abilities as a strategist have earned me many sobriquets, from the Dragon’s Shadow to the Tactician of Thistlegate. Rising Zephyr is my personal favorite. “Zephyr” will do, if you please. Follow me,” I wheeze. I barely see the sisters reunited before lightning strips the forest bare. The animals whine in chorus—my horse among them. Joan He takes no prisoners, and Strike the Zither is her latest triumph. An intricate, expansive epic that poses difficult questions and eschews easy answers, this book is as ambitious as its scheming, ruthless cast—and just like its narrator, delivers above and beyond.’—Margaret Owen, author of The Merciful Crow duology The story is told from first person, which is brilliant for seeing more of how Zephyr’s mind actually works whilst ensuring that we’re treated to as many comments as possible about those around her!
