Promotion [ edit ] Jeff Kinney launches a water balloon at a car (not pictured) at a promotional event for The Deep End.

Where has the boy been for 8 years? What happened the night he went missing? Where are the others who were with him? What does this mean for the Dempseys? I cannot recommend this novel highly enough. I urge you to get your hands on it as soon as it's published on July 20th. You won't be sorry. She says, “Where loneliness ends.”Yetu is the only one out of her mermaid tribe that knows their history. I have never seen the movie that was developed from this book so this was all new for me. It was a decent read. What stood out about this book was the description of the dives as the characters searched the bottom of the ocean. This was to be expected as Peter Benchley might be the undisputed king of ocean themed thrillers. I liked all three of the main characters but I do wish that the drug lord and his crew was fleshed out a little more. The theme of the drugs was always present but I wish the threat of the drug lord was more of a menace. The freshman trials were intended to be the ninth-graders' introduction to Nemo's technology, but Hewett feels that under the circumstances he must now tell them everything. Ana's friend and classmate Ester Harding, an orphan who is Cyrus Harding's fourth great-granddaughter, had been given the information months before but was sworn to secrecy by the Harding-Pencroft Academy board of trustees, under penalty of disinheritance. Long before the development of modern genetic science, Captain Nemo had learned how to biometrically link his greatest inventions to his own genes so that they might only be operated by himself or his direct descendants, which means that only Ana, who is Captain Nemo's fourth great-granddaughter and (it is believed) last surviving direct descendant, may now operate them. Kevin Moskowitz was born in the mid 80s and, like all superheroes, was experimented on at birth by Vought International with Compound V. Kevin first became aware of his aquatic telepathy at nine years of age, as he began hearing the thoughts of every aquatic animal he encountered, whether at a pet store, aquarium, beach, or Red Lobster. At first, he believed was going insane; however, his mother deceived him, calling it a gift and that he was just born that way. Over time his body would continue to mutate, sprouting aquatic gills on his torso, a trait that Kevin was highly insecure about as he believed himself to be ugly and afraid that people would reject him. At some point, Kevin attended and graduated from Godolkin University and was ranked number six.

Having been abandoned by their Historian, the wajinru beneath the surface are slowly being driven mad by the burden of their people's traumatic memories. Their madness is creating a storm like the one that previously engulfed the surface world. Yetu must decide whether or not to return, saving both her people and the surface-dwellers like Oori, at the cost of retaking the burden of her people's memories.Initially I thought this would be a horror book, maybe because of Jaws, but when I realized this was actually a sea mystery, I thought that I wouldn't like it that much. I was wrong, and The Deep surprised me in many ways. MAAR... als je dus wél van criminaliteit en drugszaken houdt, dan is dit boek zeker wel een aanrader voor je! Het is dus echt geen slecht verhaal, je moet er alleen van houden.

In 2021, Daughter of the Deep received the Goodreads Choice Award for Middle Grade & Children's books. [10] Film adaptation [ edit ] It's tempting to compare the two-even wile reading-but these books do stand alone. There are some similarities mind you... Tasmania, the drug trade, police, the supernatural, and wayward kids. stars. I enjoyed this immensely despite only reading it because I thought it was a shark book (whoops). In fact, I didn’t even notice until I was well over halfway through that - wait a minute - there weren’t any sharks yet. Huh.Like THE HUNGER, THE DEEP is historical reimagining laced with magic and mystery. Alma Katsu adds a sweeping love story and a ghostly tale of revenge to the sinkings of RMS Titanic and HMHS Britannic to tell a tale that is haunting, thrilling, and utterly original.”

It still pleased her that she could do that, that it was possible to have her mind to herself. Without the History devouring the whole of her mind, she had an inkling of who she was. She didn’t have answers yet, but she had questions, endless questions. And worries, and concerns. But they were hers.” As far as content, I didn't retain much; just the feeling. It's too bad because it is such a different reading experience and I believe, from what I understand, the creation of this novella was quite unique as well.As for me: I've written a few other books under another name (the one my parents gave me). A few story collections, a few novels. One of them even got turned into a movie. I've written for magazines and newspapers, too. I cobble together a living with my pen, is what I'm trying to say—by hook or by crook. It's a lean living sometimes, but it's by and large an enjoyable one. The last name "Moskowitz" indicates possible Eastern Ashkenazic Jewish descent. This is further established in the fact that the Deep starred in a Hanukkah film titled Light the Menorah. In his first appearance, The Deep was presented as unethical and manipulative. Aware of Starlight's youthful infatuation with him, he falsely claimed that he was second only to Homelander in importance to The Seven, and threatened her with expulsion from the team unless she performed oral sex on him.
