About this deal

If you prefer a smoother BBQ sauce, you can blend the onions into it with an immersion blender or regular blender. Delicious: Seriously mouthwatering. You really can’t go wrong with this BBQ Pulled Pork recipe. Ingredient Notes If time allows, I recommend cooking the pork low and slow since the longer cooking time will lend to a more tender pulled pork. That being said, our goal is tender and juicypork that can be pulled apart effortlessly, but still has the texture of meat — not mush! Cook it for just the right amount of time (8-10 hours on low is generally sufficient).

All of these issues with the need of serving them something nutritious as well as tasty can be mind blowing at times, but this is where my slow cooker is my saviour. Big families also come with big food bills and these Homepride sauces are extremely budget friendly as there is no need for a high list of ingredients which you can find with some recipes. Cook for 8-10 hours on low or 4-5 hours on high. I recommend cooking low and slow wherever possible since the longer cooking time will lend to a more tender pulled pork. Pork: Use pork shoulder or pork butt since it has a good amount of fat marbling to make the pulled pork tender and juicy.Add in the seasonings and spices including the salt, paprika, cayenne pepper, chili powder, ground pepper and cinnamon. Stir to combine. The more children I had and the more after school clubs that were happening, the more I was reaching for freezer food and I knew this wasn’t good for any of us. My narrow minded thoughts of them only being used to cook stews were quashed and over the years the different meals I have prepared have been so vast. The only thing that sometimes holds me up is having a bare cupboard as some recipes require a fair few ingredients and this is why I have been so pleased to discover the Homepride Slow Cooker range. The slow cooker came on the scene and I marveled at how I could prepare a whole range of meals that were healthy and filling in the morning, and this would be ready to eat as soon as we got in at night. Here’s what Homepride has to say: “Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces are the 1st concentrated sauces for slow cooking. Ready in 3 easy steps, our sauces have been carefully blended to create perfect slow-cooked meals every time!”

Add the trimmed pork shoulder to slow cooker and pour pouch of Pulled Pork sauce over pork shoulder. 2 Cover and cook for 5 hours on high or 10 hours on low. (Keep covered during cooking, instructions based on the use of a 3.5L slow cooker, other slow cookers may vary). 3 Once cooked, shred the pork using 2 forks and stand for 5 minutes, if you would like a sweeter meal stir through the light brown sugar. Serve in a toasted burger bun with some slaw, in a wrap or as a topping for nachos. Please ensure food is fully cooked and piping hot before serving Your Shopping List... - 150g Pouch of Pulled Pork Sauce - 800g (Trimmed) Pork Shoulder - 15g Light Brown Sugar (Optional) Add the tomato sauce, tomato paste, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, tamari and mustard into the pan. Stir to combine. Vinegar: Adds a tanginess to the sauce. I like to use apple cider vinegar, but you can also use white wine or champagne vinegar.Add the onion and garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 5 minutes. Ensure that you stir the mixture frequently and watch the garlic because it can burn pretty easily. We like to make up a batch at the beginning of the week and serve it up on a bun, rice, tacos, nachos or along with a salad. The options are endless and each way that you serve it up is equally tasty. The favourite for us though was the chilli con carne. I can never get the combination of spices right and the Homepride sauce gave me a rich sauce with just the right amount of spice. The beef and ale worked perfectly served with a creamy mash that I had made in advance, and for my potato fearing kids, chunks of fresh bread worked well. The pulled pork was the perfect after school meal as it could be piled inside floury baps with a big green salad. AD] Cooking for a large family with varying ages can be a challenge to say the least. There are always likes and dislikes, someone is hungry when someone else isn’t or there is a last minute friend turning up that needs feeding.

Spices: Chili powder, smoked paprika, cayenne and cinnamon are added to create that classic BBQ sauce flavour. Add more or less depending on personal taste preference. Healthier option:So many of the store-bought BBQ sauces are loaded with processed ingredients and contain a ton of sugar. With this option, you make the BBQ sauce from scratch so you can control exactly what goes into it! Tomato sauce: Forms the base of the BBQ sauce. I generally like to use the canned tomato sauce that just has some garlic and spices added. You could also use ketchup if preferred. Onion and garlic: Adds extra flavour to the sauce. You can also sub in onion and garlic powder if you want a smoother sauce.Shred the pork using two forks (you may wish to transfer the pork to a separate plate) and remove any visible fat. This healthy BBQ pulled pork recipe is one of my all-time favourite dinner recipes because it’s easy to make and the whole family loves it! Slowcookers are great when you want to have hot food but don't have time to cook straight after work. But so often with slowcooker recipes you spend a long time prepping/adding ingredients and the result might be underwhelming. I loved the simplicity of the Homepride recipe, the prep can be done in minutes with minimum store cupboard ingredients (2) plus meat and sauce. The result surpassed my expectations, I will buy them again and would not hesitate to recommend them to family and friends. If time allows, I recommend cooking the pork low and slow since the longer cooking time will result in a more tender pulled pork. That being said, our goal is tender and juicy pork that can be pulled apart effortlessly, but still has the texture of meat — not mush! Cook it for just the right amount of time (8-10 hours on low is generally sufficient). Allow the mixture to come to a simmer over medium-low heat and cook for about 12-15 minutes, stirring frequently. Just be careful because if the heat is too high, the mixture will start to boil and splatter.
