Nose: Big vinegar / sweet sauce. Dark fruits coated in cinnamon. Oak. Spice. General Spice. Tomato Sauce. From my current perspective a whisky that delivers ultra-raisins does nothing for me. I’ve reconciled my feelings towards my recent Glenrothes raisin fest via the medium of Alistair Walker Whisky Co, and I’ve tried enough sherried whiskies now to know that overtly raisin-like whisky isn’t what gets me going. But I also have to accept my most beloved whiskies that have made me sing from the rooftops have been either oloroso or PX casked Uisge Beatha - Ardnamurchan is at its most joyous for me when it’s sat in some sherry for a while. The name a'bunadh is described as the Scottish Gaelic for ''the original', [3] though is possibly a misspelling of am bunadh, meaning ' the origin'. [4] Released batch numbers [ edit ] Batch number This is a good whisky. It gets a little smoother with the addition of a little water. Still, it would be interesting to taste Alba with a few more years of maturation on it. If you are a fan of Aberlour A’bunadh, however, you should certainly give Alba a taste.

The distillery that today produces the iconic Aberlour whisky was founded in 1879 by James Fleming, who built it using water from St. Drostan's Well, which was named after an early Columban monk. Prior to this, there was another distillery in the area between the years of 1825 and 1833, but this shouldn't be confused with the long-running whisky producers to whom we can attribute the fine whisky we know and love today.

Nose: Rum and toffee brittle lead the way, with banana, flambéed in butter and sugar, served on a hot pancake. Chocolate-coated raisins and soft, juicy prunes develop with just a dash of mace. It’s one of the most incredibly evocative aromas, and is about as close to “winter fireside” as you’re ever likely to get… This cookie is set by Rubicon Project to control synchronization of user identification and exchange of user data between various ad services.

Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). The regular A’bunadh consists of a blend of whiskies that range from five to 25 years old, although the bulk of the whisky in the blend is typically between five and eight years old. Alba seems younger and is not as smooth as A’bunadh, although the difference may also be the influence of the sherry cask maturation rather than age. It’s probably a bit of both. Like its namesake sibling, Alba is also bottled as a NAS at cask strength, without the addition of any color or the use of chill filtering. A'bunadh is exclusively aged in Spanish oak Oloroso sherry butts [1] and therefore has a sweeter, softer flavour than most scotch. A'bunadh is not chill filtered.

Instead of the dark, dried fruit and nutty notes characteristic of sherry cask maturation, however, A’bunadh Alba offers distinctive green fruit notes of sweet baked apple and pepper along with fresh citrus zest. You are responsible for all activities through your account. Alba is the perfect counter-point to the classic A’bunadh, while still offering those familiar sweet, fruity notes which are rooted in the new spirit’s DNA … there are, however, stark differences in color and body, which should intrigue A’bunadh devotees and welcome new drinkers to the concept we lovingly know as ‘the original.’ Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA. It works only in coordination with the primary cookie. So this is a non-age stated whisky - a NAS (we all love an acronym). I don’t give one stuff about the opinion that NAS whiskies are lesser whiskies. If it smells great and tastes great, that’s all I really care about. The Glen Scotia Victoriana is a NAS whisky and consistently blows all the doors off. NAS whiskies sit comfortably alongside young whisky for me - it depends on what whisky it is, but some of my most enjoyable moments in whisky have arrived at the hands of young or non-age stated whisky.
