About this deal

You connect it just like this, the same way you would for any other pedal. Where Should the Looper Pedal Go On My Pedalboard? The user manual provided by Boss is more of a cheat sheet than a real manual, but despite being quite short it covers all the important features of the device, which is a great testament to how easy is it to use the RC-5. But a more detailed reference manual is available, in case you want to know all the details about how the device works. Conclusion Like I wrote in my other guide on how to jam by yourself, pedals are more for creative purposes and practicing for me, rather than for performances considering I’m not a live/performing musician.

This will UNDO the last-recorded overdub. But if you have multiple overdubs, you’ll have to start the recording from scratch as there’s no way to select which overdub you can UNDO (it only works for the last recording). With the fourth small (memory) button you can modify the settings for a recorded loop, among other things. Along with the sound quality, we particularly enjoyed the simplified handling compared to the predecessor model, which should not be a hurdle for most guitarists. The device is small and light, what makes it great to take with you wherever you go. Very unusual for such a small device and therefore worthy of praise is the incorporation of a MIDI input and output and in consequence the opportunity of a much more versatile use of the RC-5 even in more extensive setups.

Note: If you want to know when the Boss RC-5 was released relative to other Boss loop stations, we’ve made a timeline here. Appearances Can Be DeceivingThis could be the handiest feature on the RC-5 because it helps people who might be having trouble hitting the record button at the right time. Instead of recording immediately after you press the footswitch, it will only record when sound is detected.

We believe the Boss RC-5 to be an excellent device for beginners who are looking for a Loop Station with an integrated drum machine. The signal processing of the device is state of the art with 32 bits and the sound of the drum machine is great for a device of this price class. The 99 memory slots should be sufficient for most users, and for a beginner, the 13 hours of recording time should be more than enough. Amps Controls: MEMORY/LOOP LEVEL knob, MEMORY button, SETUP button, RHYTHM ON/OFF button, RHYTHM TEMPO button, Pedal switch They could overheat, stink, or maybe not work at all. In worst-case scenarios, they might even start a fire. BOSS, of course, recommends using their PSA-series adapter to avoid any power issues, however, I haven’t run into any issues yet using one from Dunlop.

Like its predecessor, the RC-5 has a very compact and lightweight case and a mine design. It has exactly the same dimension as the RC-3 with 7.3 cm width and 12.9 cm depth, but with a height of 5.6 cm, the RC-5 is slightly smaller than the predecessor model. The weight has remained exactly the same at 450 grams and downright invites you to take the device along in your gig bag. But it isn’t just “here’s a small looper for people who do slightly more than just annoy their families with endless looping” (let’s admit it, we’re all guilty of that from time to time). Now you could viably use the looper in a live situation as well. It might take a while to get used to performing some operations, but with a little practice it becomes intuitive. You can also always add an external footswitch later for easier control of the pedals features. lb * 0 dBu = 0.775 Vrms *The specifications are subject to change without notice. Five RC-5 Tips for the Gigging Musician I had a Boss looper before and while I never had an issue with recording or sound quality the interface was not intuitive. This way, the looper will record the complete sound with all the effects, and then it won’t change even if you change the effects while overdubbing. For example, you could record a clean guitar rhythm, loop it, and then switch on overdrive and delay to do a solo over that.Straight to right-angle 1/4-inch connectors, 10 ft./3 m length. Also available in 15 ft./4.5 m (BIC-15A) length. While you get the same 99 memory slots that the RC-3 had, Boss has increased the memory from 3 to 13 hours. Additionally, you can still store more loops on your PC through the USB port. Even if you only use the onboard memory, it’s hard to imagine filling it up unless you never delete anything. But, even if you hoard loops like a dragon guarding its gold, you can do so on your computer. Connections The drum machine on the RC-5 is a handy tool for creating rhythms and beats to accompany your loops. To access the drum machine, press the ON/OFF button under RHYTHM. With the first button you can set the beat (tab tempo or setting BPM manually) when using the drum machine. When that's done, this button lights up green and red, so it also works as a mute metronome.
