With the exception of Ringo's great _Ringo_ solo effort, this to me sounds the most Beatles of any of the solo projects.

In 2012, it was voted 418th on Rolling Stone 's revised list of " the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time". The thieves made off with the demo tapes (among other valuables), forcing the band to record the entire album from memory. On this version, "Helen Wheels" appeared as track 8, between "No Words" and "Picasso's Last Words (Drink to Me)", as it had been positioned on the original US release. On the alternative UK listings compiled by Melody Maker, Band on the Run remained in the top ten from 26 January through to 23 November 1974.K. pressing of BOTR, of which I have a -2/-2 pressing (purchased new back in the day) does not have "Helen Wheels". The album topped the US album chart 3 separate times, won a Grammy and went on to sell more than 7 million copies. In fact this was the album that lead me to re-evaluate and ultimately appreciate The Beatles who, quite frankly, to people my age, were irrelevant. Also above, I purchased a picture disc version released in the states on Capitol in 1978, catalogue number SEAX 11901 . The original remastered album and bonus audio content will also be issued in a 2 disc 180gm audiophile vinyl edition that comes with an MP3 download of all 18 tracks. the slow songs are never less than unbearably saccarine, the rockers make late-period status quo seem like hawkwind. Note: Original North American releases also contain " Helen Wheels" (running time 3:45) as track eight.Some of the styles are blended so well; hard rock, pop, mellow acoustic, african, Parisian, among others, make the record very diverse. I prefer the US album in that regards but find myself pulling out the UK for kicking back and listening.

Its continued success through 1974 was also beneficial in allowing Wings to recruit a new guitarist and drummer, and to integrate them into the band before beginning new recordings. Equally punchy is "Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five" and I've always had a hankering for the shorter "No Words", but it's "Let Me Roll It" which is the jewel in Band On The Run's crown. In 1999, Band on the Run: 25th Anniversary Edition, a special extended edition of the album, was released to coincide with twenty-five years after the album began to take off in March 1974 after a slow start. Final mixing on the album was completed over three days at London's Kingsway Studios in early November. The remastering work was done at Abbey Road using the same team who recently remastered the complete Beatles’ catalog.
