About this deal

And, of course, no collection of Dwarves, Duardin, or whatever it is you want to call them, can be considered complete without the Ginger Menace himself. Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Fury of the Deep Review – Final Thoughts Pros Aaron’s list has a minimal nod to Sharks, but it’s all about the Thralls baby. Almost certainly the first time Dhom-Hain has made it to the showdown, it gives the thralls the potential to (if going first in the round) charge, fight (and importantly kill everything within 3″), charge again and fight again. It’s easier said than done, but Wildform (+3 charge rolls IIRC) and Hoarfrost help with the charge and fighty bits respectively.

Cascalan’s story is a common one amongst the Thrallmasters – Akhelians who either feel suffocated by the strict structures and traditions of Idoneth society or have been ostracised by their fellow aelves and condemned to a life of raiding alongside the half-souled Namarti.Namarti Thralls form the core of many Idoneth Deepkin forces. In the box, you’ll find ten of these blind, soul-hungry warriors, armed with lanmari blades in a variety of styles. There’s a mixture of male and female torsos, additional parts for an icon bearer, and some fishy accessories for the bases. Armed with a brazier axe, the solemn Flamekeepers are responsible for removing the ur-gold runes of fallen warriors. They can harness the power of lifeless runes to bestow blessings upon their fellow duardin, all the while bellowing litanies from beneath their grim death masks.* If I could put my grunts on 32mm bases, and was in-it-to-win-it, it would notably increase the effectiveness of that strategy / tactic.

Low Tide –Your units all count as being in cover. This pairs well with Forgotten Nightmares, while Deepkin have some pretty gnarly ranged damage available to it most of your damage is from hit and run strikes, and most of the army has some pretty mediocre saves so you’ll want the help to getting your units up the field. Wont help much against mortal wound spam but against normal strikes with rend, you’ll be glad it’s there. The real reason you’re taking him is because he’s a cheap hero at 80 points for your Hearthguard Berzerker Ward rolls and for his unique ability which Warhammer Community previewed this past week below: I am dearly hoping that the impending battletome takes these changes and makes them make a little more sense over all like we saw between Maggotkin Warscrolls and Allegiance Abilities. If the Flamekeeper didn’t hand out a 6+ ward ability I would have hope for an army wide 6+ ward to make some of this make a bit more sense. Competitively speaking this brings Fyreslayers down a couple pegs, an army which was already not competing without allying in Stormdrake Guard for the most part. Auric Hearthguard no longer protecting heroes and doing half their damage now to Monsters takes away one of the best tools the army had for facing Mega Gargants and is sad to see go. Clear instructions, as well as a thoughtful sculpt, make all the various components slot together easily. And once he’s together, he makes for a pretty impressive model. Akhelian Allopex

Idoneth Deepkin Battletome and Tactics

Although the title is frequently seen as an insult, it affords great freedom to those who bear it. A Thrallmaster can roam far and wide in search of fresh soul-matter, mastering the pelagic lore of the ocean’s currents. Many will tame vicious sea creatures like the Snapjaw Eel, and even tattoo themselves with tidal maps to prove their navigational skills.* But one does not require the ability to see souls to recognize a Namarti, as each is forced to wear an iron collar and a half-soul rune is found upon their heads which are placed upon them when they are given new souls. This is often taken a step further, as many collar fittings will involve the Namarti being ritually scarred to further mark them as mere thralls. [1a] [1b] Ritual of the Deep-sight grants a 5+ ward on High Tide to Namarti units, when most of the carnage is going to happen. I find this is a bit counter-intuitive as its also the turn you’ll get Always Strike First on everything so ideally you’ll kill most things first, but if anything survives or you go second you’ll be prepared. While being limited to just Namarti is a shame, these are typically the units that would benefit from it most anyway. It’ll be particularly important on things that do a lot of mortal wounds, which are currently cluttering up much of the meta.

The two Namarti units see changes to go along with their new hero as well as the Allopex which saw a recent warscroll change in the Broken Realms: Morathi book. A little odd to change it again so soon without a battletome, but hopefully that’s just following along shortly with these profiles. Akhelian Allopex Many units have been improved –One of the biggest weaknesses of the original book is how most of the units were not very good. You’d rely on the standouts of the army to perform by spamming as many as possible. This gradually improved over time, but there are a lot more solid units now. With all the new Idoneth Deepkin models coming out, I was really excited to start painting them. While there are some truly impressive centrepiece models like the Eidolon, I always like to start with the rank and file of the army. This is what you’ll have the most of, so how you paint them will define the look of your army. In my opinion, it’s better to start here, and base your hero and larger model paint schemes off of them, than the other way around. With the Dwarves Duardin out of the way, let’s have a look at their foes. There are no fewer than 22 Idoneth Deepkin miniatures in the box, one of which just so happens to be a heavily armed and armoured shark. Akhelian Thrallmaster There’s a lot of stuff in this box. Like, a lot of stuff. Here it all is rammed into my (somewhat measly) lightbox.

Our Thoughts

Kyle Calip – Mortis Praetorians: No Immortis whatsoever, as Kyle instead runs Kata, Arkhan, a buffed up Liege-Kavalos & 30 Mortek Guard as it’s core There are also full rules for using Idoneth Deepkin in a Path to Glory campaign, with warband tables, rewards and a battleplan, which sits alongside three battleplans for larger games. To be frank, when GW changed the Ork and Space Marine base sizes from 25mm to 32mm, that probably killed off a chunk of the "We have to keep up with the official base size changes" crowd. Because rebasing a squad is one thing, rebasing your entire collection is another. They’re quite fun little figures too, once they’re together. Really mad naked dudes with burning morningstars. Warhammer, everyone. Vulkite Berserkers
