About this deal

For TRAVIS SCOTT’s full-length major label debut, RODEO [Epic Records/Grand Hustle], he has teamed up with some of the game’s hottest producers including Mike Dean, Metro Boomin, and many more. In between a narration by T.I., the album twists and turns through a cavernous deluge of impeccable and impenetrable rapping from TRAVIS and entrancing soundscapes. Moreover, he attracted some of the world’s biggest stars to rage with him. Kanye West turns up, literally, on “Piss On Your Grave,” The Weeknd’s stunning falsetto punctuates the airy “Pray 4 Love,” Justin Bieber and Young Thug assist on the wonderfully intoxicating “Maria I’m Drunk,” and Juicy J turns “Wasted” into an anthem, among others. On top of that, this album is clearly so deeply personal and vulnerable and it makes it so hard not to connect to it in some way. There’s so emotion and soul in each song and it conveys not only that there was a hell of a lot of effort put into this project, but there was real feeling and real experience behind it. It’s honest and it’s just as much clever with the approach behind the themes like Lust, Fame, Guilt, and Anger being so interesting while avoiding all the usual takes on the subjects for something more personal and frankly brilliant. I consider it a 9.5 and if you wanna get more specific, a 9.8. It’s right at the line but there are still examples that reach that last .2 to a level where it would be unfair to grade this any higher. nocturnal, drugs, party, hedonistic, atmospheric, psychedelic, hypnotic, alcohol, sexual, male vocalist, urban, progressive, eclectic, surreal, melodic, boastful, lethargic, rhythmic, dark, sampling, ethereal, sensual, longing, vulgar, introspective, lush, bittersweet, concept album, dense, futuristic

For this to be his debut, there’s nothing else to call it but a Magnum Opus. I see this album less as a continuation of the culture started by albums like 808s and Heartbreak and MBDTF and more as an extension to the Foundation it was built on. It’s expansive, and it takes the sounds that have been culminating over years prior and absolutely perfects it in a way where it redefined how artists who wanted to take on trap would approach it for years to come. The best part too is not just that it’s so near perfect, it’s the fact that this came out the same time as and held up against staples like TPAB, DS2, At.Long.Last.ASAP, and TLOP. It held its own and then went on to define the sounds of many future projects in the genre and continues to reverberate in the Trap scene as one of the best and most heralded examples within the history of the genre. This is pretty alright. I have some pretty serious issues with the way some of these songs are mixed feeling all over the place, but for the most part it's not horrible. I think the biggest problem is just that it's kinda samey throughout and I don't care for much on here. Vote up content that is on-topic, within the rules/guidelines, and will likely stay relevant long-term.Travis’s Almost Perfect Magnum Opus Album My Best Friend suggested this album offhandedly one day, something which he typically does about once every week. When he does, it usually results in one of two things:
