About this deal

Also, there was no reference to Polestar brand on the rear plastic bumper, just the regular Volvo script logo. The 2017 symbol Polestar has teamed up with tech pioneer StoreDot, as it looks to increase its electric battery know-how. StoreDot is currently a class-leader in fast-charging technology, and the new partnership will see Polestar investigate the use of its silicon dominant, lithium-ion cells. Polestar has made something of a song and dance about its decision to switch the single-motor cars to rear-wheel drive but customers won’t notice the difference immediately. Most of the time the car feels exactly the same as before, with the same slightly lifeless steering and ample grip. Lease & Subscription, which are Hire Agreements will be entered into by UK Automotive Solutions Ltd which is an Appointed Representative of Volvo Car UK Limited, authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, Firm Reference No. 678616. The Geely offshoot isn’t the first to the party though; it joins a client list including Daimler, BP and Samsung, as brands look to improve charging time as well as range.

Today I added a little flair to my 2015.5 V60 RD. Because it's a T6 that came standard with the Polestar optimization, it already has a Polestar badge on the rear hatch. I wanted to add a badge to the front grille, similar to the setup on V60 Polestars. In 2015, both Polestar Performance and Polestar brand were bought by Volvo, while Polestar Racing (under the name of Cyan Racing) stayed in the property of Christian Dahl. In 2017, Polestar became Volvo’s sub-brand. 1996 – 2017 The most popular advice topics — we've got you covered 2035 petrol and diesel car ban: 12 things to knowIn addition to Toyota creating Lexus, we have also seen Nissan setting up Infiniti (which has come and gone from Europe), Hyundai creating Genesis, Citroën spinning off its DS models into a separate company called DS Automobiles, SEAT creating a sporty Cupra brand and Volvo doing a similar thing with Polestar. There’s a hint of Volvo DNA in the practicality of the cabin, too, because there’s plenty of space in the Polestar. Space in the front is ample and rear space is sufficient, too. Sure, really tall passengers might find their hair brushing the roof lining but it’s no worse than in a conventional saloon such as a BMW 3 Series, and better than the EV6 or Ioniq 6, and legroom is more than sufficient even if you’re sitting behind someone lofty. This means point-to-point automous driving on motorways and in other controlled environments with human intervention required only in emergencies, as well as hands-off driving in more regular use – albeit with the human driver still keeping a close watch. Of course, the electronic nannies will step in if things really get out of hand, and drivers will have to try hard if they want the tail to swing out, but it’s possible. Among keen drivers, that won’t be a problem, but the unwary might be caught off-guard. In many ways, the Polestar 2 has improved dramatically, with its huge official range, improved charging capability and its extra on-board tech. But it doesn’t feel hugely different, with much the same interior, boot and road manners. Even the transition to rear-wheel drive hasn’t made too much of a difference. But that’s okay, because the Polestar 2 has always been a solid car – that’s why they’re so popular – and the new model will do little to change that. Maybe the new grille will put a few people off, but that’ll probably attract as many customers as it repels. And while a few small flaws remain, those who are attracted to the Polestar 2 will find a more capable car than ever. Related articles

The Polestar brand emerged from Flash Engineering, which was created in Sweden with the aim of racing the Volvo Touring Cars in the STCC. The original name “Flash Engineering” was replaced by “Polestar” in 2005, a year after the division was sold to Christian Dahl. The Polestar’s debut complete raceproject was C30 S2000 launched in 2009. In most respects the Polestar 2’s cabin hasn’t really changed. It’s still the same minimalist environment as before, borrowing heavily from Volvo. That’s no bad thing because Volvo’s interiors are easy on the eye and well built, and the Polestar 2 has the same sense of quality. The tech, dubbed XFC for short, can be integrated into existing battery designs and uses silicone anodes to deliver the boost in charging speeds. StoreDot says XFC will not degrade the battery any more than existing rapid charging. Expect to see prototypes of the Polestar 5 equipped with this tech in 2024, though production might take a while after that. Polestar 4 and the Mobileye Chauffeur

The new logo was introduced simultaneously. Like the original one, it also featured a star, yet its shape, as well as the overall look of the logo, was completely different. It reminded the main element of the wind rose, where the “North-West” and “South-East” parts had been removed. The main part of the wind rose actually reminds a star, which creates a link between the logo and the name of the company. Font of the Polestar Logo At the same time, Polestar has also upgraded the 2’s charging capabilities, so even the basic model with the smaller battery now has the ability to charge at 135kW on a public DC charger. Naturally, it’ll need a suitable charger to do that but at maximum charging speed the new Polestar 2 will charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 34 minutes. But will all that be enough to ensure the Polestar 2 remains up there with the best electric cars on the market? Owners will be able to ‘both contribute to the energy transition and monetise their EV while it’s parked’. The smart charging tech aims to optimise battery use for the owner’s transport needs – for example, if your car knows you drive to work every morning at 8, it’ll avoid letting the grid discharge your battery for the morning rush at 7. Never heard of Polestar? For many years the name was a badge hung on Volvo’s higher-performance models, but in 2017 it headed in a new direction, as a standalone sister brand that would market distinctive electric vehicles (EVs). However, you can still get Polestar performance upgrades on many Volvo models. Are these the 23 ugliest cars ever made? Gran Turismo movie review The 31 most ridiculous car names ever › More here... The minimalist cabin is dominated by the central touchscreen, which represents the tech hub of the car. As before, the screen is powered by Google technology, which makes it almost as intuitive as an Android phone to use (yes, it’ll run Apple Carplay, too). It isn’t quite that good – there’s the occasional moment of lag as it processes an input – but it’s one of the best touchscreen systems on the market.Polestar’s going great guns with this approach, with a large-scale project in Gothenberg, Sweden powered by a fleet of Polestar 3 cars. The so-called ‘Virtual Power Plant’ will link all participating vehicles, calculating the collective capacity of the connected batteries and charging or discharging them based on grid demand.
