The campy fun of the movie is supposed to be watching these animatronic creatures rip apart some teens, and Cage ripping the creatures in return. There is some cheesy horror-movie novelty in these sights, but Willy’s Wonderland is most entertaining during its set-up. Having Cage say nothing beyond a few grunts of exertion (elicited by both monster fights and pinball) is a B-movie affectation that works, allowing him to cut a splendidly ridiculous figure. He matches well with the sensibilities of director Kevin Lewis, whose fast-motion cleaning montages, oddball camera angles, and energetic editing bring to mind Sam Raimi, even if he can’t quite work his material into a bloody frenzy like Evil Dead II. Little does The Janitor know that Willy's Wonderland has a dark past and its animatronic mascots – including Gus the Gorilla and Arty the Alligator – have a taste for blood, leaving The Janitor facing a battle for survival as the violent mascots come to life and interrupt his cleaning duties. Outliving One's Offspring: Imagine being the parents of someone who drifted into town and were sacrificed to the animatronics at Willy's Wonderland. Your child just wanted to get through town and offered their services in exchange for getting their car repaired, then they are sacrificed and eaten by animatronics possessed by serial killers. One can only imagine what Liv's grandparents have been going through all those years, wondering what happened to their child and grandchild. Willy's Wonderland was originally set for a worldwide theatrical release on October 30, 2020, but was postponed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it was released through video on demand, with a simultaneous limited theatrical release in the United States, on February 12, 2021 by Screen Media Films.

Trademark Favorite Food: The Janitor carries a large supply of Punch soda in his car and chugs one during every break. In fact, it's all he's ever seen consuming. At the end, he uses the soda cans as blunt weapons against Wily and in the very final scene, he offers one to Liv, showing a bond beginning to form. We could either go to war with the machines, come off like crazy people, probably lose a lot of good folk along the way, or… The Janitor is basically Mike Schmidt as he is a silent average joe who works the night shift at a troubled family restaurant and has to fight the demonic animatronics out to kill him. In an entirely wordless performance, Cage plays The Janitor, who is stranded in a remote town when he has no way to pay for the repairs his car needs. He's offered the chance to spend a night in the titular amusement park, with his repairs paid off if he cleans the place up in time for a reopening.Or maybe he does know? You can never quite tell. There's a lingering puzzle about Cage's character that doesn't quite pay off. In fact, overlooking the paltry purse strings of the film (because that can't be helped), the only egregious error here is that the story doesn't go far enough. It sort of settles on an "okay" answer palate, giving us only medium surprises, when it could push boundaries further and get a lot more wild than it does. Without giving too much away, Cage's "Man With No Name"-type hero feels like he could be fascinating, but then the final screw never gets turned and we're left kind of adrift in a movie that could have been more. Not to mention the shot where she climbs the ladder to the roof and it's quite clear she's not wearing underpants. Cammy Chameleon claims to be this among the animatronics to Chris, only to kill him when Liv shows up.The project was announced in October 2019, with screenwritter Parsons having come up with the idea based on his 2016's short film Wally's Wonderland, which was also the original script name. It caught Cage's attention, who shortly after agreed to participate as both an actor and a producer. Lewis was hired as director in December 2019 while the cast joined in February 2020. Prior to its release, the film received a small cult following due to comparisons with the Five Nights at Freddy's video game series.
