About this deal

Yes, people often are held back by making up excuses, but thinking that if you did it once that you will never be successful at your goal is not true.

Matt Allen does a really good job of organising the material and it’s really well put together and exciting – the photos are great, too. zu Phänomenen wie "Angst" und "Verletztlichkeit" wenig Verbindung hat, aber das mag vor allem durch seine lange Zeit beim Militär erklärbar sein. They told me I was crazy, even though I'd sharpened my climbing skills on the brutal Himalayan peaks of Everest and Dhaulagiri. Wanting to do what everyone thought impossible, Nims developed Project Possible, a mission to climb the fourteen highest mountains in the world in only seven months, which is seven years faster than the world record. Luck also seems to have favoured him as he went from mountains to mountains even when he was extremely tired or unwell. There are big opportunities lying ahead and I truly hope that a next writing attempt (maybe using a professional writing assistance) will be able to take advantage. There are two sets of excellent colour plates and we get eight Lessons from the Death zone at the end (Matt Allen does a lot of books with typical “hard men” so this was not unexpected). Unauthorized use and/or duplication of this material without express and written permission from this blog’s author and/or owner is strictly prohibited.

After resigning from the military, he started investigating how he could manage to climb more impressive mountains. Along the way he saved the lives of several stricken climbers, captured that now-famous image of the snaking queue to Everest’s summit and put the spotlight on climate change and the Nepalese climbing community. For all of the talk about perseverance and working toward your goals, there’s not enough talk about handling failure or disappointment, or acknowledging fear and vulnerability. This was TBR Challenge 2021-22 Book 15/85 – 70 to go – and it’s one of my Nonfiction November reads. Discover the amazing story of Nimsdai Purja in his own words – his international bestselling hardback book, Beyond Possible, is the story behind the scenes of the 14 Peaks Challenge.

Young readers who love action and adventure will love this autobiography of Nimsdai Purja with his pursuit to climb all fourteen death zone mountains. Purja shows how leadership, integrity, and collaboration drive world’s greatest climbing feats, including the first-ever winter ascent of Pakistan’s K2?

The trailer for Netflix documentary '14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible' came out on YouTube and I caught some quotes from the book. The documentary '14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible' is quite similar to the book except for the interviews of Suchi Purja (Nirmal's wife), Reinhold Messner and a few others. This ofcourse conditions him to be better than average person but yet the enormity of his project cannot be understated. These cookies help provide information on metrics the number of visitors, bounce rate, traffic source, etc. There are some greatcolor pictures in the center of the book, a "Lessons from the Death Zone" discussion of life philosophy Purja has taken away from his climbs, and a page of Purja's world records.

In this spellbinding memoir , tied to the acclaimed Netflix documentary “14 Peaks,” Purja reveals the man behind the climbs, explaining how his early life in Nepal and training as a soldier in Britain’s elite Gurkha and SBS units allowed him to achieve a mountaineering mission few thought was attainable. He talks about how if you mess up that you will then continue to mess up, so I don't think this one works as well as he intended. It is uncomfortable to see him fall into the traps of wrong decisions by forgetting the rules he himself set.

I gave up reading because I felt, although I think what he did was incredibly impressive and beyond human, the account of his physical training and outdated views didn’t make me gain any respect for him. As someone who intends to climb Everest Base Camp next year for the first time (covid dependant), this was so fascinating. The first half of the book is geared towards his life up to the point he decides to make the lifestyle transition necessary to climb all fourteen peaks.
