About this deal

Full disclosure here... I have read A LOT of self-help books over the years. Here's what makes this one stand out from the rest - The fact that you can't change the past and in constantly trying to model your present/future in a change from your past isn't realistic. If you are operating from a place of "I want a future that doesn't include [insert whatever thing from the past that you are trying to overcome]", then you are inevitably setting yourself up for failure. Successful people learn from their failures, but they do not live in the past. They take the skills and lessons they acquired from their failures and apply them to the present and future. Don’t live in your own personal past.Don’t define yourself by who you were. Define yourself by who you are today and by who you’re working toward becoming. Gary John Bishop began his life journey in Glasgow, Scotland. The grit and wit of his early life have contributed to his tough-love, in-your-face approach to coaching. Coupled with world-class training and development, Gary has created a potent brew of effectiveness and the ability to reach through the crust of people's lives and root out the deeper issues that consume them and tie them to their hurdles. His ability to elevate and expand people's greatness makes the kind of life-altering impact that is so rare in the industry. Gary's hyper-awareness and years of elite training allow him to assess each client and guide them to the path that best expresses their lives; with micro precision, he cuts straight to the heart of what is going to make a difference. Have you ever wrestled a sofa up your driveway and into your house on your own, just because you didn’t realize you could ask for help? No? Though these saboteurs, or sabotaging statements, take the same form for everyone, they are unique for each person. Your set of hidden beliefs will be different than your best friend’s, your parents’, your partner’s. So what are the statements exactly?

If you start to really see whether you are doing things out of habit or whether they REALLY need to be done, you will start to see ways to reduce what you do. Well – let me introduce you to a new acronym that may just help – and I D.A.R.E you to give it a try next time you are finding things hard. D.A.R.E stands for: Part of the reason those three saboteurs have such a great impact on our lives is that we humans need to feel secure. We like to know what to expect from life, other people, ourselves. And so, if our underlying conclusions about those things are negative, we inevitably search for evidence that life really is unfair, or that we really are unworthy, and so on. That’s what leads us to choose actions that counteract our conscious goals and dreams – the subconscious need to be proven right about those three hidden saboteurs. I like this book, but it just wasn't something that I haven't heard before. Just the regular recycled stuff in other motivational books. If you know me, I have a lot of experience with this type of writing style and I have a large group of book dedicated to this genre of self improvement and development. So I tell nothing but the truth. Stop is one of the verbs in English which can be followed by a gerund (-ing verb) or infinitive (‘to’ verb). These have distinct meanings, for example I stopped to talk to her is totally different to I stopped talking to her.

1. Ignoring your circadian and ultradian rhythms.

In short, productivity is the key to having a happy, healthy, and prosperous life. When you want to achieve a goal — it’s not always what you should start doing — sometimes it’s about what you need to stop doing. Here are 15 things you need to stop doing to be more productive. 1. Ignoring your circadian and ultradian rhythms.

stop doing or stop to do something? Should you use stop doing or stop to do something?

Shouldn’t be done, by the likes of me, as an audiobook. Much as I like / need the audio format to chip away at my tbr pile, the inventory and introspection required pencil and noodle time, that a-format doesn’t dovetail nicely with. Take one step at a time, and perfect a specific skill and then start developing new ones that can enhance the other skills you have accomplished. Focus on your top priorities before moving on to the next item on your to-do-list. 6. Making excuses.

8. Stop Living In The Past

The verb used is «σταματώ» [stamaˈto] --> to stop, cease, quit, come to an end, come to a standstill< ByzGr v. « σταματάω/σταματῶ» stamatáō (uncontracted)/ stamatô (contracted) --> to stop, cease, quit, come to a standstill, abort, take position< Classical v. «ἵστημι» hístēmĭ --> to make stand, set up, take position, bring to a standstill (PIE *steh₂- to stand cf Skt. तिष्ठति (tiṣṭhati), Av. hištaiti, Lat. stāre > It. stare, Sp./Por. estar, Fr. être, Rom. sta, Eng. stay; Proto-Slavic *stati > Rus. стать, Ukr. стати, Cz. stát, Svk. stáť, Pol. stać, OCS стати > BCS стати/stati, Bul. ставам, Slo. stati). You hired them for a reason. Let work your employees work their own kind of magic. Granting autonomy will boost their productivity, and you can start devoting more of your time to the things that matter. 10. Just “winging it.”

And then bam, it hits. Your car breaks down at the same time your pet needs a big medical procedure, and then you lose your job. But wait, those are all external issues that just happened to you, right? You couldn’t have caused any of that to happen. There are plenty of ways to look at what you do at home with a different perspective – so that you can stop doing chores at least partly. There are two big mistakes we make when thinking about our past and how it affects our lives. The first is in thinking the past has absolutely no influence on the present. The second is in thinking the past directly controls the present.

In Stop Doing That Sh*t Gary John Bishop tries to get to the heart of self-sabotaging behavior, by attempting to consciously access destructive sub-conscious beliefs. Remember those circadian and ultradian rhythms I discussed? They determine when you have the most energy and focus. As such, you wouldn’t want to spend that time on more leisurely tasks. Instead, you should be using that on your most challenging or most crucial activity for the day. Save those less taxing jobs for when your energy drops. 5. Trying to do everything at once. For more about using ‘used to’ to describe something that happened in the past but has now stopped, see: Used to do vs used to doing. Secondly, Let me share with you a bit of my thoughts on this book. It was great. One of my favorite conversations this year. Glad to have gotten to know #GaryJohnBishop and looking for more of conversations soon. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m a morning person. I always have been, but that may not mean that I’m any more productive than a night owl. It could be disastrous to force a night owl to wake-up incredibly early. The reason? We all have our own natural circadian rhythm.

You can also use this in the structure ‘stop someone (from) doing something’. In this case, it can also mean ‘prevent’, if the action never happened in the first place: In this Blink, you’ll discover why other forms of self-help might not have helped you in the past. You’ll come to realize and accept the unconscious thoughts that are keeping you from actually achieving your dreams. You’ll take responsibility for your life and your actions. And you’ll find that you truly are in the best of hands – your own. Did you skip your oil change because you were so busy worrying about your job that you couldn’t take the time to take your car in? Were you skimping on your pet’s medication because you were worried about some impending loss of income? Had you been distracted and making tons of mistakes at work because you were obsessively trying to predict when your fortunes would fall?

So, stop just focusing on today and having fun. Think about where you want to be in five, 10 or 15 years down the road! Having a good focus aids in success! First of all, I read this book with his Scottish accent on mind. And that was fun! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is self-sabotage at its finest. The worrying, the stressing, the fretting about when the other shoe’s going to drop. It might not seem like it, but these thoughts can subtly – or sometimes not so subtly! – influence your actions, which then leads to the dreaded losing it all. And yet, had you not been so stressed or anxious, you’d still be doing just fine. This is the second book of the series, well, the first was honest, simple but this went like too far ahead. I am all for making things as easy as possible – and automating as much as you can makes perfect sense because it saves you time, energy AND hassle!
