About this deal

The sex scenes. Pass. The coming out nowhere dominant bullshit in bed and the male character psycho-babbling nonsense to claim control in the bedroom, GTFO with this BS. The sex talk was a bit ridiculous? Gracing him with the most insincere expression I could muster, I stepped into his personal space, just shy of straddling his knee. The side of my pinkie brushed the top of his hand as my fingers wrapped around his beer." You know, not to be a mom or anything, but you really shouldn’t smoke.” He huffed, curling his fist around it. “I haven’t lit one in almost two weeks.” That would explain the unlit one the other night, I supposed. “Does holding one help with the craving?” He shifted, and my head rose and fell with the slight movement of his shoulder. “Gives me an excuse to sit outside.”

Obsessed would be an understatement when it comes to this book. I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did. Slow burns aren’t usually my favorite but this one just hits different. I really loved getting to see the foundation build between Garrett and Maddie. Their chemistry and tension was off the charts.Hace tiempo había visto la sinopsis y no me llamó la atención pero me mandaron un TikTok y me convencieron y no me arrepiento de haberlo leído, está muy bonito. this is the first lilian t james book ive ever read, and i have to say i’m absolutely HOOKED. this book was amazing, & i loved every single second of it. I didn't enjoy this book mainly because I hated both main characters and I didn't like the romance at all. The only good part of the book was her best friend and son, and that's it. Jamie Madison son is the MOST adorable kid I have even not met!! He is full of sass, funny and so freakin' cute! The relationship between him and his mum is amazing and the way he views garrett at first it's sad that he has had to feel that way but oh so sweet. His relationship with Garrett is perfect too.

Now, at twenty-five, Madison has long since stopped believing in love. Balancing single parenthood, three jobs, and online courses, she doesn’t have the time anyway. Being with a manipulative partner is like an addiction. But instead of a drug, you’re addicted to them, to making them happy because it’s the only time you can be happy. You acclimate to their behavior a little at a time, until you grow numb to it. Until it’s no longer the worst day you’ve ever had, it’s just Monday. “Then one day they stop giving you your fix. They leave you writhing on the floor, screaming out into the void, all the while knowing, even through the pain, you’re going to wake up and do it all over again. Forever chasing the high of making them happy.” He judged her without knowing her, just from a conversation he overheard. Hence, he started growling and scowling her way (alpha bullshit). I thought this book had a really good premise and these types of romances about overcoming past toxic relationships are something that I completely love, however, it all started wrong when I started hating the main character in the first 10% of the book because of this:Speaking of algorhythms, I was almost expecting a recommendation for "Wait For It" by Zapata on my paperwhite at the end, this story is truly reminiscent of it, but nope. Madison is a super heroine. Years after getting out of an abusive relationship, she’s doing the best she can to give her 8yo son the best life possible. Even if it means juggling 3 jobs, school and mom duties. And I found it heartbreaking that no matter what she’s doing, people are judging her instead of supporting her. Why can’t people support her instead of making her feel bad for reaching for help. I honestly felt like slapping those PTO mom for shaming her every chance they got. It was time consuming, but I’d learned years ago, spending a few extra minutes babying my curls was the difference between “Yes, girl, work it,” and having animals bow down to me as their new king.”

Madison and Garret are new next-door neighbours in a duplex, and I loved how the beginning of the book there’s a graphic of what their two mirror-image apartments look like. The chemistry was a blazing fire, and seeing how Garrett was with Jamie; My heart went to this man! The mother and son bond that Maddie and Jamie shared was equally enjoyable to read and Jamie is easily one of my favorite childhood characters of all time! Madison woke up thinking it would be a piece of cake to meet Garrett's mother. She made himlike her, after all.First time I am reading this author and I wasn't disappointed, I really liked this book more than I thought I might. Single POV which isn't my favourite in a book but I really didn't mind, I was hooked. She can’t deny he has a voice to die for and the body of a god, but neither helps the fact that his personality is pure poison. This was recommended to read by algorhythms after One Percent of You by Michelle Gross which shares the single mom/grumpy neighbor romance trope and while I enjoyed the later A LOT, Meet Me Halfway was a complete fail for me. I made it to 93% (with some light skimming) and decided to DNF. Isn't it the worst? thank you to everyone who recommended it, especially kim because THIS BOOK JUST MADE MY DAY?!!!! i started it today and finished it today because you can't stop reading tbh each chapter is fab and the couple??? *CHEF KISS*

She knows as well as anyone that mothers can be protective of their children. And as a divorced, single mother, the only thing Madison has to offer Garrett is her heart. When things were bad, they were really bad. But when they were good, they were amazing. Over time, I’d gotten so used to the bad times, that the good ones seemed almost euphoric.” I stared off into space, contemplating my next words. “Being with a manipulative partner is like an addiction. Forever chasing the high of making them happy.”And then, this guy became the love interest because he's hot, so why not? I thought I was going to like him after putting her in her place, but oh my god. Sadly, I got so tired of the book that I stopped highlighting the toxic behavior and all the possessiveness. The author tried to make him all mysterious and a little grumpy, but he was just an asshole and didn't show personality throughout the entire book, he was just there. He also made some terrible assumptions about the protagonist at the beginning, about her being a gold digger (when she's far from it, working like three jobs and being a single mom) and never apologized for that. Por separado también me gustaron, aunque a veces Maddie me desesperaba por su indecisión y su miedo, pero era entendible y Garret es un amor de verdad yo necesito un Garret en mi vida.
