At university he initially studied history – fortunately, the building was shared with the art department, and when he saw the students sketching, knew he had to change. Sweet enough story about a young spider who wants to learn to count and shows her family how important counting is, but not spectacular considering it's a Donaldson. Thanks to Busy Mummy, I got to share this with both my boys several times and they enjoyed the quaint humour throughout.

I really enjoy getting the children in the audience to help me act out the stories and sing the songs. Spinderella is a spider who lives with her spider mum and her spider brothers and sisters on top of a ceiling light at a school. In this vibrant counting book, one mole digging a hole is soon joined by a troupe of gardening friends, including nine doves in gardening gloves and ten bees pruning trees. An uneven match of 7 v 3 sees the team with more players comfortable winners and inspires Spinderella to learn to count. We work separately - he’s in London and I’m in Glasgow - but he sends me letters with lovely funny pictures on the envelopes.

His first commissions were for magazines in Paris, and when he moved to London, he developed his portfolio for children's books. When reading this story I have noticed that it is similar to Cinderella (the title gives this away) but also how the story is structured. Although she is so prolific her stories are well thought out and enjoyable -also she does not have a formula that I can detect.This one outlines the adventures of a young spider who lives with her woman-headed family in a school and wishes to learn numeracy.
