While at work one day, she meets a strange boy (who we later find out is named Michael), leaves a business card asking Cassie to call Agent Briggs of the FBI. Cassie calls Briggs, and he asks her to join the FBI for this new project that they’re doing with Naturals – people who have a natural ability to read people and situations, who are perfect for the stuff that the FBI does (mainly hunting for serial killers and investigating abductions). Cassie agrees to join up with the FBI because she believes it is what her mother would have wanted. After an intense discussion with her grandmother, she jets off to a house where the rest of the Naturals are staying. The agents go to Club Muse, where Genevieve was last seen. This time, they take Cassie with them, since the killer obviously wants her involved. In the bathroom, Cassie sees a code that spells out “For a good time, call Lorelai. Guaranteed plus one. Kola and Thorn.” Lorelai was her mother’s name. “Kola and Thorn” is an anagram for a street, which the agents then go to.

Cassie agrees to join up with the FBI because she believes it is what her mother would have wanted. After an intense discussion with her grandmother, she jets off to a house where the rest of the Naturals are staying. What Cassie doesn’t realize is that there’s more at risk than a few unsolved homicides—especially when she’s sent to live with a group of teens whose gifts are as unusual as her own. Soon, it becomes clear that no one in the Naturals program is what they seem. And when a new killer strikes, danger looms close. Caught in a lethal game of cat and mouse with a killer, the Naturals are going to have to use all of their gifts just to survive. But when victims of a brutal new serial killer start turning up, the Naturals are pulled into an active case that strikes too close to home: the killer is a perfect copycat of Dean’s incarcerated father — a man he’d do anything to forget. Forced deeper into a murderer’s psyche than ever before, will the Naturals be able to outsmart the enigmatic killer’s brutal mind games before this copycat twists them into his web for good? Elle Jemtegaard, Kristi (March 25, 2014). "The Naturals". Booklist. Archived from the original on October 29, 2020 . Retrieved October 29, 2020. The concept behind THE NATURALS is kind of interesting, but it doesn't work for various reasons. The big one: It's hard to accept the premise that the FBI would hire a bunch of kids (who aren't even attending high school) to solve crimes, especially ones involving serial killers. At one point, Cassie wonders if the FBI even knows the "Naturals" program exists, except for the two agents who recruited her. Readers may suspend disbelief for the sake of pure entertainment, but the novel's all over the place. It's predictable and full of cliches (a love triangle, insta-love, missing parents) and has unlikable characters.

With The Naturals, Jennifer Lynn Barnes has achieved a rare treasure: a suspense series accessible and riveting for adults and young adults alike. With stunningly powerful characters, bone-chilling high stakes, and tension that only twists tighter with every book, it's by far my favorite new book addiction!" - Rachel Caine, New York Times best-selling author of the Morganville Vampires The author has several series written to date, all with young adult readers in mind (this doesn’t imply that adults can’t read them – I do and I’m far from a young teen reader), some more paranormal in nature than others. She also has a few standalone novels which are well worth reading. The twist in this was incredible! I couldn't believe it! I was sure it was someone else but then I was suprised that it wasn't!
